Seriously, I have no idea where to start with this review. I’ll try not to include spoilers, but if there are, I’ll give you a warning before reading any further. Honestly, I am absolutely blown away by A Court Of Wings And Ruins novel and it took me several days to adjust to the world after finishing this beautiful book. I honestly don’t know how SJM can top this book, but let’s be honest here… it will because it’s so amazing.

I read it in one sitting all night because I couldn’t put it down. True, this book is a court of pain and feelings, but it is absolutely amazing and I felt incomplete after finishing it. SJM has seriously taken their writing to new heights and I can’t even begin to explain how amazing this journey has been to experience.

“The great joy and honor of my life has been meeting you. to call you my family. And I am grateful, more than I can say, to have had this time with all of you.”

I have been a huge fan of this series from the beginning because I always felt it showcased the extreme writing talent of Sarah J. Maas. It’s so different from the Throne of Glass series and I loved the creativity and dedication he puts into this story. You can clearly see how much all these characters mean to her and each scene is described in detail.

Her writing is really engaging and something that is easy to get lost in. I know that tomorrow I wouldn’t even hesitate if someone asks me to leave this world behind and immerse myself in the world of Feyre. This story is complex and I never expected SJM to be world based much more than before, but it does and it’s excellent. There’s a lot of story progression, and that means new faces and new locations come into play as we continue to develop our beloved characters.

“What we consider our greatest weakness that can sometimes become our greatest strength.”

A Court Of Wings And Ruin book begins with Feyre back at Spring Court with Tamlin. While some people may have found this part slow, I think it showed how far Feyre has come as a character. The power it took for her to go back and lay the groundwork for her (and Rhysand’s) conspiracy was absolutely amazing! I think it helped build the story perfectly and showed us how Feyre was thinking at the time. I definitely had a bit of an Aelin feeling in this part because Feyre was so cool and amazing, which only increased my love for her character. But best of all: the characterization of Feyre.

I thought that she was already well developed, but SJM added another layer to her character. Feyre is such a strong and powerful character and she has come a long way since the first book. Looking back, I can’t even believe this is the same person…and that’s an excellent thing. It shows how much Rhys and the Night Court influenced her and helped her become the person she was ultimately destined to become.

“She would have waited for another five hundred years for you. Even a thousand years. And if that was all the time she allowed us to have…it was worth the wait.”

Rhys is as perfect as ever. I mean, come on… who doesn’t love it? The way she treats Feyre made me swoon every damn time, and she’s the grand dame of hers in every way. She’s giving him something that Tamlin never gave him…respect. He believes in her and that he can do amazing things. He allows her to spread her wings (that’s an excellent pun, by the way…I know I’m not as funny as I think I am) and embrace her magic.

The constant support and love that Rhys gives her is something every girl should have. Plus she’s hilarious as hell…you can’t get a better man! I will honestly never get enough of him and he will always remain firmly in my top 5 book friends. There’s obviously a lack of chemistry between Feyre and Rhys, and all the sex scenes are perfectly scripted. I love them so much together, it makes my heart happy.

“It’s rare for a person to stand up to who she is and not run from it, break it.”

Cassian and Nesta are brilliant and I strongly believe that they will be the focus of a future book. I need them together and I need a book with them as the main characters because it’s going to be such an epic story! They have the perfect dynamic that runs through the entire book. we experienced more about Mor and my heart broke several times for her. I just wanted to hug her tight, but I loved delving into her character. Azriel meditates like always, but I love him. Something is definitely wrong between him and Elain, and I need to know what it is.

Amren’s cheek is pure gold and I love her very much. There are definitely some surprises with her character that left me (along with the characters) in shock. We also meet a new High Lord, Helion and God I love him! It needs to be in these next 3 books because it’s amazing. We also see the return of Bonecarver and Suriel. And seriously… they play epic roles in the story. And Tamlin… I have to mention this guy. I actually liked how SJM dealt with it in this book (especially at the end). He was realistic and believable. And (Lord help me) I didn’t hate him anymore.

“My anger had become a living thing in my chest, a resounding throb that lulled me to sleep and woke me up.”

However, my favorite part of A Court Of Wings And Ruin book (of all other things) is its unpredictability. Just when he thought the story was going one way and a bombastic twist would come out of nowhere and completely change the whole story. And in the end there were not 1 or 2 but 3 big things that scared me and made very weird noises that I’m sure my neighbors in my apartment building didn’t like.

The BIG (and I mean BIG) thing with a certain character at the end left me with tears in my eyes and my face in shock. I’ve honestly never been more scared by a character in my life and I’ve prayed so hard that SJM doesn’t do what he did. I think I stopped breathing at some point so HOW DARE YOU SARAH J MAAS! How dare you scare me like that!

“It’s a new world and we must decide that how to end this old and start a new.”

Don’t mess with FEYRE! I stand by my statement above (having read A Court of Mist & Fury). Feyre is a force to be reckoned with. From the beginning of the story, I loved seeing Feyre use his powers and abilities to get back to Spring Court. Feyre was definitely making the most of her spy role and I didn’t mean to lie, she was so happy to see that she was a total queen and manipulated others to bend her will.

Feyre reminded me of Rhysand, who were the same. The way Feyre planned everything to bring down the spring court from the inside impressed and shocked me because our dear Feyre has come a long way from the first book to her battle against her enemies, both with her physical training and her immense powers. .

As I read more of the series, my love for Feyre grew immensely and I have genuine respect for everything she has done and has done to protect the ones she loves. As much as I would love to continue talking about my love and appreciation for Feyre, there are a few other characters/things I wanted to talk about. For example, we finally got to see Nesta and Elain, especially considering how everything went in A Court of Mist & Fury.

Nesta was always someone who just acted cold and wasn’t necessarily the “niceest” person, so I could never really connect with her character, but there were moments that made me reconsider that Nesta wasn’t all bad, and towards the end she began to grow on me. While Elain seemed sweet, calm and docile to me. My heart broke when Elain was described as not eating, sleeping a lot, and for lack of a better word, it was like she wasn’t alive in the sense that her transformation into Fae left her changed.

Nesta and Elain struggled at first, but by helping Feyre and everyone else in the war against Hybern, they were able to learn more about themselves and become part of the inner circle. Ultimately, both Nesta and Elain started to embrace their lives as High Fae, but I’m definitely more interested to see what else happens to them, especially in terms of romantic interests (*wink, wink).

Another thing I loved about this series was how closely connected Feyre, Rhysand, Cassian, and Azriel were. Mor, Amren (and I think Elain and Nesta) made a strong and trusted family group. Everyone has each other’s backs and just by reading this book and the previous one, you can find that the relationship between everyone is genuine. Other than that, I loved how everyone supported each other, like when meeting the High Lord turned horrible because of Tamlin (oh I hate him).

While they couldn’t do any physical harm for all the horrible things Tamlin said, it was fair to say that under other circumstances, Cassian, Azriel, or Mor would have happily torn Tamlin to pieces.

The action in A Court Of Wings And Ruin book was amazing, I felt like I could imagine epic music playing in the background while everyone was in the middle of a fight. Towards the end, when it all came to a climax, I was in complete shock… AND I LOVED IT. Surprisingly, I felt a bit emotional at the end, which I didn’t expect, but I think it shows how connected I feel to these characters. Finally, at the end of this book, the last scene with Feyre and Rhysand had me imagining they had their own “Aladdin’s carpet of flies” all over Velaris, lol.

Prythian is about to go to war, and Feyre becomes a key figure in trying to figure out how to keep the kingdom alive. Reunited with Tamlin, she must be as cunning as possible, pitting certain players against each other while searching for unlikely allies. Hybern, the threat of the invading fairies, is too too dangerous for him to take the risk and seek as much help as possible.

When she and her accomplice Lucian escape Spring Court to return to Night Court, Feyre meets with her partner Rhysand to strategize on how best to survive. The two of them are strong and do what they can to call the other High Lords into their realm so they can work together.

Feyre’s human sisters, Elain and Nesta, were also recently thrown into the cauldron and have since been reincarnated as fairies as her sister. She is doing what she can to train her sisters to see and use her new abilities so they can help and survive the coming war to tell the story.

A Court Of Wings And Ruin book had 700 pages of action, while also ripping my heart out (before putting it back together). It was fascinating to be in this world and I loved every magical moment.

I loved Feyre at first, she was such a strong female character and I really appreciated her strong backbone. However (if you read my previous reviews of the previous books), she lost some of my respect for the way she treated Tamlin. She knew they didn’t work out as a couple, but she couldn’t justify her cruelty to him. She was protective, if a bit too stifling, but she was never harsh or abusive. ANYWAY (I will always rant about that aspect of the story) Feyre has been redeemed on her strength by her people and by Rhysand.

Rysand. Fainting. He’s just… everything. I don’t like bad boys, but I do like a tortured soul. Rhysand is no different. Suffering from a past of torture and absolute hell, all he tries to do is make amends and make sure no one else suffers the same fate as him. He is doing everything in his power to save as many souls as possible in this war. He is not only elegant but also sexy. His bond with Feyre makes their connection and time together incredibly intense. They were always a power couple to witness.
