Wow! A Light In The Flame book What an end! Another painful cliffhanger ending but wow it was an adventure getting there. I promise no spoilers because believe me you don’t want that! I love this world and this series and this is just another great episode. You won’t want to miss this. So A Light In The Flame picks up right where the last book left off. Sera and Nyktos learned some pretty important information that will forever affect their future.

That is, if they can change it. Sera has the glow of life and won’t make it to her 21st birthday which is only five months away. What can you do? His options are limited, but Nyktos refuses to let Sera die even if she is willing to pay the price herself. In search of answers, they must also contend with attacks on the Shadowlands and prepare for Sera’s coronation, taking her place as Nyktos’ consort. And like most things, it’s not exactly easy. Challenges arise around every corner, whether they come from outside your race or not. Then there are Sera’s own feelings.

Much has changed when Nyktos learned the truth of his purpose, and as that has changed, Sera has realized how much has changed about herself. Specifically what she thinks about Nyktos. It’s a long and hard road for both of them. But we see them grow as characters and witness the love they have for each other (whether they know it or not) gradually grow.

Lots of revelations in this one! One of my favorite things about this series is that from the Poppy books we know what happens to Sera and Nyktos, but at the same time we don’t know anything at all. Nothing about how Sera and Nyktos get to the future where Poppy is born. Nothing about how they survive. And from these stories we know that the path is anything but easy.

I keep guessing as I read to find out what’s happening and how, and I’ve yet to be right or have proven it right at this point. Then there are the parts that we know fit into Poppy’s story. And of course the prophecies. One day every line of it will make sense. Until then, we just need to pick up a few pieces.

I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds. I loved this book so much. I couldn’t put it down. The action and romance were fantastic. I worship Nyktos and Sera. If you’re following this series, don’t miss A Light In The Flame book!

JLA described the need to write this companion series to explain how the FBAA world came to be, the lore, the story, the magic, the gods. Much of this has been explained in this book. In my opinion it was VERY heavily worldbuilding/lore oriented (so many names to remember!). I think that’s why I was a bit slow going. There was also history and much spicier. I didn’t like it as much as ASITE, but the content of this book was essential to further understand the FBAA and FAF series.

Bring your notes, bookmarks and tabs! I love Nyktos and Sera very much. But also all the supporting characters AND the dynamic between all of them. The JLA jokes were delivered as usual. I struggled a bit with the modern slang in a high fantasy world. Greek mythology meets a unique approach to vampires that never fails to draw me in. i love this world I’ll be back! Ready for the next!
