Jasper has been my best friend my entire life. From losing my family when I was young to living together and running our business, it’s always been me and Jasp. I feel more for him than I should, but admitting the truth would be the first step in losing him.

Our lives are so intertwined that it’s hard to know where one of us ends and the other begins. It kills me more every day being so close to him and not being able to call him mine. So if it hurts too much, the only option is to walk away.

My life is perfect. I have my family, my business and my best friend. But when Sutton walks away, everything changes and it tears me apart, forcing me to admit hard truths: that when he touches me, I feel different; I need you always by my side.

The thing is, I’m in love with Sutton and apparently he feels the same way. Loving Sutton is as easy as breathing, but knowing that my parents won’t accept us, not with all the backward things I’ve been taught to believe, makes every day a struggle.

But I’m sure of one thing: the world doesn’t make sense if Sutton and I aren’t together. We had a million little moments to prove it. And to be the man he really deserves, I have to fight for him, for us, and also maybe that means fighting for myself too.

A Million Little Moments is a doubly awakened romance between friends and lovers full of firsts, self-discovery and two men meant to be together.

This book deals with homophobic issues and contains homophobic language.

Sometimes a romantic author creates a pair of characters who are so perfectly suited that you know that despite the challenges they face in the story, despite the circumstances, they will come together and be stronger as a result. That they were made for each other, whether they knew it from the start or not.

A Million Little Moments features one such couple, which reminds me a lot of Joey and Gage from Beautiful and Terrible Things, if not quite as heartbreaking. Jasper and Sutton, The Terrible Twosome, Thunder and Lightning fit right into the picture. Friends since childhood, bound by the tragedy of the death of the Sutton family, the two men live together on Jasper’s parents’ estate, own a business together in the small North Carolina town where they grew up, and are one for each other.

They’re so close that Jasper’s parents pursue him to find a wife and settle down because his otherwise cool father is homophobic and his slightly overbearing mother isn’t exactly homophobic, but she’s not exactly an ally either. So definitely cautionary content for homophobia, both external and internalized. It gets ugly and emotional for a while. Riley also doesn’t take the easy route by giving these guys her sweet, sweet HEA, and I appreciate that.

I also appreciate the beauty of Riley’s writing in this book. The rhythm is adapted to the setting and the characters’ words are like those sung by Tom Petty in Southern Accents. I’ve highlighted a number of passages that I don’t normally make copies of in advance as they don’t transmit, but were too moving or evocative not to bookmark.

Like this one, which doesn’t spoil too much: “Every time we accidentally touched, it was like my heartbeat moved to the exact spot on my body where our skin met.” As if all the good, that I felt like living right there.” “Today no need, this book gave me a huge hangover. I went back and read Just for the Weekend, the first book in the series, and loved it too. However, A Million Little Moments is fine on its own.
