Pauline Sara Jo Moyes born on 4 August 1969, known professionally as Jojo Moyes, is an English journalist, romance novelist, and screenwriter since year 2002. She is one of the few authors to have twice won the Romantic Novel Award at the Year of the Association of Romantic Novelists, and his works have been translated into twenty-eight languages.
Pauline Sara-Jo Moyes was born on August 4, year 1969, in Maidstone, England.
Before attending college, Moyes held several jobs: she was a typist at NatWest writing Braille explanations for the blind, a pamphlet writer for the 18-30 Club and, for a short time, a minicab driver. While studying at the Royal Holloway University in London, Moyes worked for Egham and Staines News.
Moyes received a scholarship funded by The Independent newspaper, which enabled him to attend a postgraduate course in news journalism at City University in year 1992. He then worked for The Independent for the next 10 years in various capacities, becoming assistant news editor in year 1998. In year 2002, she became arts and media correspondent for the paper.
Early in her writing career, Moyes wrote three manuscripts, all of which were initially rejected. With a son, another baby on the way, and a career in journalism, Moyes vowed to stop her efforts if her fourth book was rejected. After sending the first three chapters of her fourth book to different publishers, six of them started a bidding war for the rights.
Moyes became a full-time writer in year 2002 when her first book, Sheltering Rain, was published. She continues to write her articles for The Daily Telegraph.
Moyes’s publishers, Hodder & Stoughton, did not pick up the year 2012 novel Me Before You and Moyes sold it to Penguin. It sold six million copies, reached number one in nine countries, and revitalized her back catalog, resulting in three of her novels simultaneously appearing on the New York Times bestseller list. Moyes later wrote two sequels to Me Before You: After You in year 2015 and Still Me in year 2018.
In year 2013, it was announced that Michael H. Weber and Scott Neustadter had been hired to write the adaptation of Me Before You. In year 2016, the film adaptation Me Before You was released and the script was written by Moyes.
In year 2018, Moyes invested £120,000 in the Quick Reads Initiative, an adult literacy project. Her investment brought three more years of funding to the program. Ella’s book Paris for One and Other Stories is part of the year 2015 Quick Reads collection and she contributed a short story to A Fresh Start from the year 2020 Quick Reads collection.
Moyes lives on a farm in Great Sampford, Essex, with her husband, journalist Charles Arthur, and her three children. Her animals include a former racehorse, Brian, and a rescued 58kg Pyrenean female mountain dog.

After You by Jojo Moyes is the second book in her Me Before You series. This is the story of Louisa Clark and her life AFTER Will Traynor. It’s refreshing, not as heartbreaking as its predecessor, Me Before You, and picks up after Lou’s time in Paris AFTER Switzerland and (view spoilers).
The book literally starts with an explosion (or crash?) where Louisa falls hard and is picked up by paramedics. Intense and sad when we see how (see spoilers). Once out of the hospital, her parents insist that she go to a bereavement support group, and she reluctantly agrees. Then, a teenage girl named Lily shows up on her doorstep with a startling revelation, and Louisa’s life becomes entangled in Lily’s teenage drama.
Ella then meets the paramedic who helped her recover after her fall and finds him just as wonderful as the night he saved her. Things are starting to turn around for Lou, and she doesn’t feel like she’s letting Will down that much. But this is just the calm before the storm and while she tries to move on with Sam, will he be able to deal with Will, who is still sorely grieving? Will Lily be able to solve her and Lou’s family problems by helping her, or is she just a punching bag for this hormonal teen with justifiable abandonment issues?
People looking for an another heartbreak like Me Before You book will be sorely disappointed. This is Lou’s life, continuing this epic romance/tragedy. Why anyone ever want to put her through something like losing the Will a second time is beyond me. The story is intriguing and entertaining, and no less Louisa Clark than the first book, but it’s MUCH more light-hearted (by comparison). Next, Still Me. Enjoy it!
This is a worthwhile sequel that revisits Louisa’s post-Will life. Characters so believable, so richly developed, that I felt like a guilty voyeur interfering in their life together. As Louisa comes to terms with the loss of Will, I found myself grieving the loss of him and reliving all the complex emotions he was feeling, emotions that the first book and its premise evoke.
This troubled Louisa is a bit different from the free-spirited Louisa we met in Me Before You. Of course, she was changed, injured, and experienced a complicated duel. But with the narrative comes a shock, actually several shocks. The story is full of choices that Louisa has to make, and she guides her through the decision-making process quite closely. She has some tough decisions to make and if I had to give her some advice, I’m not sure what she would say. Your sister Treena certainly has strong opinions. But where does she go? What would Will have wanted for her? What obligation does she feel to her memory and legacy?
There are moments of joy mixed with incredible pathos. Just like the first book, I cried a lot while reading this one. That’s not typical for me. Not for the words on a page. Not for fictional characters who are two-dimensional. These characters could very well have been friends because they seemed too real to me.
I highly recommend this book, and although it can be read as a stand-alone book, I think you’ll enjoy it more if you read its predecessor first.
