This book was so good that I read it in four hours (and that doesn’t happen often)! What initially drew me to this story was the Outer Banks setting, but the semi-historical plot and dynamic characters kept me reading.

Meghan Gray was a wonderful character and it was clear that she had a heart of gold. Returning to Pappy’s Cottage on Hatteras Island, she was surrounded by warm childhood memories of her there, but she also missed him terribly. When she met Toby Meyers and her grandfather Rupert, who had mistaken Meghan for someone else, there was an instant bond between them all. Meghan helped calm Rupert by promising to visit him in the nursing home, and though she indulged his Alzheimer’s-fueled fantasies by pretending to be the woman he mistook her for, she soon realized that she had a deeper connection than she knew. what she thought before.

She had mixed feelings about Toby and his motives in this book. It was clear that he was holding back and worried about getting close to Meghan, but he also seemed upset enough that she would visit Rupert and fit in with what he believed to be her grandfather’s delusions.

Meghan seemed to be the only one who believed that Rupert’s “fantasies” were actually memories, and it bothered me that Toby didn’t even consider the possibility that she was right. Her feelings also seemed to change often, and he often took it out on Meghan; Then, when the truth behind it all came out, I have to admit I was a bit surprised at how this story ended. But since this is a romance novel, I think it had to end the way it did.

Her instant mutual attraction to each other helps Meghan process memories of her grandfather while she creates new memories with Toby. She feels that she is finally home again. Finding her new path in life is exactly what she needs and it’s easy with Toby by her side.

I really enjoyed this story. This was a true escape to beautiful Hatteras Island. The warmth of the summer sun and the sweet and tender romance were very captivating. I felt like the author completely transported me to the sandy beach, relaxing and listening to the ebb and flow of the ocean.

The author’s beautifully detailed description of the sights and sounds of the island was phenomenal. This “read once” book is the perfect read for the beach! Make sure it’s packed in your beach bag. It captured my heart from the first to the last page. I loved it.
