There is no crying in baseball, and apparently no reading either.

For me it was child’s play. What better way to pass the time playing the most boring sport in the world? If my best friend accuses me of going to a Coyotes game with him, I make sure to bring a book.

But who could have predicted that star pitcher Carter Barlowe would see me in the stands and two flying fastballs would indicate that he was more interested in my novel than his return to the Capitol? I had never heard of him until this day. Now you’ve made sure that he knows exactly who he is and what he wants. Me.

This sports romance packs a huge emotional punch! Avery is a sweet and lively young woman who is not interested in sports. When Ella’s best friend Brodie asks her to go to an MLB game with him, she’s not so thrilled, so she brings a book to the game.

Carter Barlowe / Lowe loses his balance when he sees that the beautiful brunette completely ignores her pitch and the baseball game around them. As her agent helps uncover her identity, he makes repeated attempts to charm and woo her.

Avery is completely reluctant to give Carter a chance, but he slowly wears her down and wins her affection. As the characters grow to closer, Carter shares the very closely guarded secret about his childhood. What happened and how he then comes back to haunt him is an emotional component that he didn’t expect, but it definitely adds to the story and defines Carter as an incredible character. Avery was just as amazing, especially how she reacts when the going gets tough. She may seem cute, but she has a goddamn protective streak.

This was a very entertaining story and as a baseball fan, I enjoyed baseball.

I really liked Carter…he was valuable and he went after what he wanted. Him and EJ broke my heart several times. I don’t understand Avery at all… she comes and goes without explanation or reasoning. The family dynamic was also weird, especially the sisters, even the best friend was jealous and weird, so I don’t… I don’t know. This had great potential… but it was all a disaster. I love the idea and the characters, but the story was underdeveloped for me.
