I don’t even know where to start with this book. This entire series is just outstanding. I loved Brutal! Ruby Vincent has created such complex and interesting characters in the midst of a rich and fascinating world of mafia and gangs.
So first things first with this book is that it focuses on the relationship between Adeline and Brutal. Oh my silent, brooding, watchful, strong Brutal. Her limited conversations with Adeline always made me smile, but now we get a glimpse of the deep, intelligent mind behind her expressive eyes and the emotional heart that beats beneath her chest. And it does not disappoint. The intensity of his love for Adeline was simply amazing. And Adeline was amazing! The way she sees each of her guys, she really sees them and knows how to communicate with them. This book deepened and strengthened their relationships.
One of the surprises in the Brutal book was Adeline’s father. Seeing him interact with one of the boys and seeing how strongly she defended her daughter was incredible. The other surprise was the relationship between Adeline and her best friend Gianna. It’s a complicated relationship. Gianna proves to be another very strong and intelligent female character that I love, even if I don’t agree with all of her actions.
There are so many twists and turns. The story moved at a great pace. I found myself gasping, screaming, and bursting into tears at many points in this story. I love Ruby Vincent’s writing style. And that cliffhanger at the end. The elusive Mercer is next book and I really can’t wait. What a wonderful story and series!
When I started this series I liked all the guys but Brutal wasn’t my favorite… after reading his book he’s my favorite by far! I want to reiterate how important it is to this story that each book has a different guy from the point of view! I honestly don’t know how another series can do this series’ style of writing justice… the last half of this series made me cry. I cried so much. It got to a point where I couldn’t get past the first sentence of the next chapter because I was so emotionally invested that I knew if the character broke, I could potentially break.
It takes a lot to give me an anxiety attack in a book, but this one did it. Did I finally move on? Yes. Could you do this sober? Absolutely not lol! Once again we have another ending that left me with the biggest WTF moment yet. I couldn’t sleep even though it was almost 1am… I jumped straight to book 4 because WOW I didn’t see that coming!
