When young priest Nicolas Chatry made his vows, he thought the most difficult thing he would face was performing his duties in a wheelchair. Until a murderer enters the confessional. Unable to recognize the voice or maneuver fast enough to see the killer, Nicolás has no way of discovering who admitted to such a horrific act. And even if he did, his strong vows prevent him from telling anyone.

Unable to live with the knowledge that a predator roams the streets of New Orleans, Nicholas breaks his vow and enlists Shaye to do the impossible: find the killer before he strikes again.

Once again, Jana DeLong brings us an amazing book about Shaye Archer. Spoiler alert, I hope you don’t have plans for tomorrow, you’ll be reading all night. I like the little notes that Mrs. DeLong throws into the story to bring you up to speed on what Shaye’s life was like in the previous books. However, this is truly a series where I would recommend starting with book 1 to get the depth of the story of Shaye, her adoptive mother Corrine and Eleanor the therapist.

His relationship with Detective LaMotte made the story true. When wheelchair-bound Father Nicholas Chatry hears a confession to a murder, he turns to his mentor, Father Bernard Abshire, the senior pastor of St Mary’s. Should he break his vows and what will the penalty be if he does? When Jackson LaMotte receives a missing girl case, Hailey Pitre; You can’t help but think that the two mysteries become one. I can’t wait for book 8

Nicolás Chatry, a year-old young ordained priest, listens to a disturbing confession from the person who confessed to the murder. The seal of confession means that the priest cannot divulge anything he learns on pain of excommunication. He has an enormous burden in deciding what to do since the killer could kill again. Additionally, due to a car accident, he is confined to a wheelchair, limiting his ability to respond to someone stalking him as a potential next victim.

Many suspects in this serial killer mystery. Another girl has gone missing and the search continues to find her before she is killed. Both Shaye and Detective Lamotte are working on the same case, but Shaye has to promise that Father Nicolas’ testimony will be withheld. The only annoying complaint is that the phrase “Blow the Air” has been used 23 times by numerous characters! It became a game while I counted. The mystery of who did it and the characters who returned made for a quick read. I think this is my favorite of the series as it really drew me into the characters. It helps to read the books in order, but it is not absolutely necessary.

With “Damned” Jana DeLeon has delivered another excellent suspense thriller by Shaye Archer.
It puts us brilliantly in the dilemma of a priest who is faced with the choice of keeping his vows in the confessional or speaking from his personal moral compass.
His descriptions of the priests in the story make them real and relatable rather than lofty. They are men we meet who are very similar to us.
With threads leading to a long list of suspects, this one kept me guessing to the end. The tension was on the edge of your seat the entire time and I found my heart beating along with Nicholas.
I highly recommend this book.
