From the Wall Street Journal bestselling author of 44 chapters about 4 men (inspiration for one of the most-watched Netflix series of all time) comes a dark mob romance steeped in Irish folklore.

I don’t remember if my grandfather’s eyes were blue or green, but I’ll never forget how they crinkled at the corners when he laughed at one of his own jokes. Or how they sparkled mischievously as he told me stories of the magical creatures that lived in the woods behind his humble Irish sheep farm: shy fairies who liked to eat tea biscuits, cruel witches who liked to eat children, a cranky sea sprite with a penchant for expensive gifts.

As a child, he believed every fantastic word. But when he warned me about the mute child that he also lurked in these woods and that the same priest had declared the spawn of Satan, I refused to listen to him. Kellen wasn’t angry. He was kind, beautiful, special and hurtful. he was my friend. And with each summer I spent with him in these enchanted woods, he became so much more.

But when I return to Glenshire as an adult, grieving and engaged to someone else, all those legends quickly turn into nightmares.

My grandfather really had been right about everything, especially the boy.

I really don’t know how to write this review. Not something I would normally read, but I loved that this author always takes chances, her books are offbeat when it comes to the usual category they would fit into, and this one was no different.

I didn’t really get what I thought I signed up for, I got so much more, I went in with an open mind and thought the story would go one way if it revolved around Axel and one direction I wasn’t ready for. the folklore mysteriously woven into this book, the old witch in the woods, the lake left you wanting more. All of this only added to this unusual, magical and unique story. And that is why this book has my 5 star rating.

This book won’t be for everyone, it wasn’t gloomy or gloomy for me, but for others the trigger warning is there for a reason.

To the plot…

When she was eight years old, Darby Collins attended the funeral of her first grandmother in Ireland, a place she had never been before. She was the daughter of a drummer in a one-hit band that she hadn’t seen when she was growing up. And a mother who taught Darby single-handedly.

She meets her grandfather for the first time when he makes up a story about the fairies that live in the woods behind his property and sends Darby with cookie in hand to find a fairy ring to put her sweet gift in, hoping to attract your fairy. .

She never meets a fairy that day, but rather a boy named Kellen who is huddled on the floor of an old abandoned building in the woods. But using her wild imagination with his unusual eye color and the fact that he doesn’t speak, she believes that he is actually a fairy.

For a few years now, with Darby and her mother returning to Ireland every summer to visit her grandfather, Darby and Kellen have formed an inseparable bond.

But as the story progressed, her visits abruptly stopped and still this mute and lonely boy waited for her to return to him.

Years pass before they meet again under much darker circumstances. He left the boy and in his place is a much darker version of the boy she knew.

Kellen is unlike anyone I have ever met before, you are drawn to him beyond measure, boy to man they are worlds apart, he jumped from the frying pan into the fire and emerged as someone with the abilities he had, unrecognizable. he was forced. My heart goes out to him, the misunderstood boy who was labeled the devil, ostracized by the community, and the girl with a vivid imagination who had a life-changing traumatic experience that did not harden her or dim her beautiful light. . These two characters are made for each other.
