Leigh James is one of USA Today’s best-selling authors of contemporary romance. She is a vocal lover of burly alpha males in movies, books, and real life, making her three children roll their eyes and her husband feel valued. When she’s not writing, she typically reads or watches Outlander, Game of Thrones, and Vikings (see Alpha Male Preference above). She has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of New Hampshire (which is good for deadlines and word count) and a law degree from Suffolk University School of Law.

I know this is a fictional romance, but there were too many problems with this story to gloss over.

When I started the book I was hooked and couldn’t put it down. Unfortunately, about halfway through the book, I sighed in despair when I realized I still had a hundred or so pages of convulsive conflict to go before I reached the end.

James is a billionaire in his 30s who comes from a respected family in Massachusetts. He hasn’t had a serious relationship for years, but he has to make an appointment for his younger brother’s wedding. To prevent his family members from making it difficult for him not to bring a date, he hires an escort named Audrey to accompany him to all the wedding celebrations.

Coming from a wealthy elite family, James needs an escort who can handle his family and move smoothly in this social environment. So, of course, the agency gives it to a 22-year-old woman who just graduated from high school, has never left Boston, and is one step away from doing tricks on the corner.

This is a Pretty Woman love story, opposites attract, but there was no way James and Audrey’s relationship was going to work. They fall in love and state that they want to be together forever after knowing each other for just over a week. The intense connection they profess to have is based solely on lust and the traumatic bond. This is not a recipe for a strong long-term relationship.

James and Audrey don’t really know each other. The circumstances in which they interact are sublime and dramatic. They constantly deal with secrets, blackmail, abusive mothers, and coming to terms with past trauma as they fall in love.

After dating for a few days, James proposes to Audrey, wanting her to move to California with him and to also take her brother, who has special needs, with her. Audrey agrees to this arrangement, even though she hasn’t really thought about how this will play out or what her life will be like when they are together.

To think that you really love/know someone and can build a life with them after knowing each other for little more than a week shows a lack of maturity and that they do not have a real relationship experience. I know there are people who say they met their spouse a few days ago when they got married and have been together for 55 years. Congratulations, but that is not the norm. Most people need to take the time to know who they are in a relationship with and understand what the expectations are for a successful marriage.

Throughout the book, James and Audrey are either having sex or trying to figure out how to resolve all the family conflicts that come their way. After leaving lust behind and overcoming family drama, what do James and Audrey have in common? What are you talking about?

There is a big age difference. Audrey is 22 years old while James is 38 or 39 years old. Audrey has been in survival mode her entire life and she hasn’t had time to think about what she really wants out of life (other than a childish fairy tale about being treated like a princess). . James has had time to grow and establish himself financially and professionally.

The discrepancy in terms of power dynamics within this relationship is wide. Audrey has low self-esteem. She starts a new relationship and uproots her life for a powerful man she doesn’t know and doesn’t even have solid foundations for. Most likely, this relationship will turn into a complete disaster.

A subplot is that Audrey’s best friend Jenny is also a chaperone with her. James’ best friend Cole hires Jenny for the wedding. Cole and Jenny end up falling in love too and conveniently living out their happy endings in the same ridiculously short amount of time as Audrey and James.

Towards the end of the book there is a 50-page suspenseful buildup about a family member who is possibly a murderer, but it ends with a whimper and feels like a waste of time.

Ok, yes, this story is full of clichés… I still can’t understand why someone would give this story less than 4✮s. I mean, I know we’re all unique and what makes my boat float could sink yours… what makes you float could fail for me. but overall I thought this story was brilliantly told. There is enough about the stress of life as a high-end hooker/escort and a bit of drama with this particular hooker.

Audrey Reynolds fulfills the fantasies of men. They use her body and she takes her money and she’s a little embarrassed. But she does what she has to do to survive and take care of her disabled brother. I must confess that I admire these women even though she does not approve of their actions. But a lot of them are doing what they have to do to survive and I think Mrs. James pulled it off perfectly. ction. I liked the character of Audrey.

your despair has depth r that can be overlooked because of her profession. Smart and ambitious, she is devoted to her brother and makes a better life for him, no matter what. She has high standards and good ethics…which is hard to believe, but true nonetheless. She is a young woman who is not used to comfort and convenience. She has never had these things. And she then she faces a new task from the lady of her…

James Preston prides himself on reading people well and not underestimating them. That is one of the reasons why he is a successful businessman in the billionaire class. So when he hires an escort posing as his girlfriend, James is thrown off course because she’s nice and beautiful, sexy and smart, and surprises him every time. And he can’t have that! He didn’t want to have to take the time to figure them out (so inconveniently)… but he had no choice if he wanted this charade to work.

Audrey Reynolds is kind, smart, and witty, and she’s a professional escort…a fancy name for a hooker. She is beautiful and kind, and even though she is only 22 years old, she is smart beyond her years.

She should be an easy two week job for Audrey and James. No strings attached…no strings attached…no games. Pretend to be lovers for two weeks. Except everything IS a game. I didn’t like how quickly these two started to “feel” for each other. Insta-Love just never flies with me. I loved the attraction and chemistry of her, but the sudden emotional part did not convince me. It’s a glacier, and it’s the sun… it’s gentle with its harshness, and I loved that. And I loved how its massive walls inadvertently began to weaken.

And just when I thought I had this story completely figured out…right on the brink of a yawn…I thought “here we go again…” (another predictable romance in the usual format)….What did this author do? ? He knocked me off the couch onto the floor! He woke me up and turned my game back on. And it was wonderful! Character descriptions are beautifully detailed, including all minor characters. This is primarily a romance novel…but it contains an intriguing, slightly unnerving, dramatic suspense.
