Hostile Takeover is everything you’d expect from a Cara Dee book and a book in the franchise. The book is a front-row look at one man’s journey to kink, everything from his doubts, insecurities, and ignorance to his enthusiasm and curiosity. Unlike the other books in the series and the baubles by other authors, this book examines all the thoughts and confusion a person can feel when immersing himself in the lifestyle.

As in all Cara Dee books, the story is much more than the romance between the two characters, it is about the mental and emotional turmoil that a new and unexpected relationship can cause in a person. But Cara doesn’t engage in the usual internal conversations about the future, whether or not the other person feels the same way about how the character was hurt and isn’t ready for more, or whether the deepening will damage the relationship.

It focuses on the real, honest turmoil of someone navigating the uncharted waters of the kinky world while remaking a relationship, not knowing what they like, what they hate, what they’re willing to do, what they hope for, and ultimately… who do you want it is.

This series is just chefs. I look forward to these releases because I can learn more about Kink and find my solution. I was excited that we were able to move on with Franklin and see some of the characters come back into the story.

This story is about Franklin, who we met in Book 5 of Tate and Kingsley, who is recently divorced, has a little girl, and is just learning about himself and getting into the lifestyle. He seemed very shy and scared in Out of Ashes, but Cara Dee really gets her characters to speak for themselves and show us who he really is.

This story seems to have more scenes than the previous books, but I’m not complaining. The Heat was great and added something to the story and characters that can be difficult. This book ends on a cliffhanger with promises that they will be back and I can’t wait to learn more about the characters featured.

Hostile Takeover is the eighth installment in the series and stars Lincoln and Jack. To me, they are an unusual pairing, not because of the age difference, but because of their previous relationship and the reverse dom/sub dynamic. While the previous books in the series were very emotional, this book focused more on the physical aspects of Lincoln’s journey into perversion, with Jack and others.

Still, I loved everything about his relationship with his daughter and kudos to Cara for the way she describes the challenges faced by parents of a child with special needs. It’s also great for meeting characters from previous books. Hostile Takeover ends on a cliffhanger and I hope we don’t have to wait too long to find out what’s in store for them.
