After midnight, 26-year-old Chyna Shepard stares out the moonlit window, unable to sleep on her first night in the Napa Valley, her best friend’s family home. Instinct proves to be reliable. A murderous sociopath, Edgler Foreman Vess, has entered the house with intent to kill everyone inside.

A self-proclaimed “homicidal adventurer,” Vess lives alone, to sate every appetite when it arises, to immerse himself in sensation, to live without fear, regret, or boundaries, to live intensely. Chyna is trapped in her deadly orbit.

Chyna is a survivor, hardened by a lifelong struggle for safety and self-respect. Now it’s being tested like never before.

At first, her only goal is to get out alive, until she accidentally discovers the identity of Vess’ next intended victim, an innocent distant one that only she can save. Fueled by a newfound thirst for meaning that goes beyond mere self-preservation, Chyna mobilizes every inner resource she has to save an imperiled girl. . . while the terrifying threat posed by the Edgler Foreman Vess grows moment by moment.

(Spoilers Warning) Chyna Shepard, the hard-nosed, hard-nosed criminal psychology student. She and her best friend take a trip to her friend’s family’s farm. Chyna had never had a boyfriend and had been a survivor her entire life. The first night there, she hears screams from outside her door. She instinctively ducks under the bed when she hears footsteps slowly making their way to the door. A tall man enters the room and looks around her.

Then the man looks again and goes back downstairs. Chyna, who then followed him out of her room, started looking up to see where everyone was. She found the mother and father massacred in her room. She goes downstairs and sees that her best friend is tied up downstairs. The next thing Chyna knows, her friend is in the man’s arms and she walks into her RV.

he followed him to the trailer to find out how to stop him. She found her dead friend of hers and her journey continued. She went through many tests, she found out that he had a girl in her basement and she was determined to save her. She had used her situation to try to save at least someone.

The story then continues by having her attempt to complete her objective without dying herself. Chyna was definitely my favorite character as she was the hero and the main character. However, I really enjoyed reading about Vess. He was the crazy serial killer tormenting Chyna. I thought her character was one of the most compelling things about the book, how interesting the book was to hold in my hands.

The book doesn’t exactly relate to the situation, but it did show the thoughts and feelings that she would have if she were in the same situation. I feel like in the books the main character often makes really stupid decisions that I would never make, but in this story, Chyna is really good at making decisions. Characters can also be quite trustworthy. She has a tough upbringing and that upbringing can drag her down at some points in life. This might be very understandable for someone who had that kind of education, but not for me personally.

Now for the good stuff. My opinion of this book is incredibly high. I went into this book with very high expectations and they were met and indeed were met. I was promised and got a very scary, harrowing and intense read. This book does an amazing job of letting you know how the characters are feeling, often changing perspectives. For example, you spend 2/3 of the book with Chyna and the other 3 with Vess.

That explains why the character choices are so precise, because I can read their thought process. Some books fail at that, they have characters making spontaneous decisions and as a reader you are expected to accept it. This book leaves no room for unreasonable narratives and never leaves you wondering why a character would do anything. While this is one of the best books I’ve ever read, there are a few minor issues that I have.

First of all, at some points in the book, the author can stop at these long description sessions with our characters. For example, Chyna gets into a car that is only used once in the entire book. The author then spends 3-5 minutes reading the description of the car. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for descriptive writing, but this book took it to the next level multiple times. That and a few other minor flaws are all I can say bad about this book. A must read for me and one of the best I’ve read by this author.

I would recommend this book to anyone who can get their hands on it. It will keep you interested for hours and will make you look behind your back in terrifying fear. I recommend this book to anyone who is ready for an adventure full of fear and excitement. For a more mature audience, this book can be very vulgar and not suitable for the faint of heart. Overall this book is one of the best I have ever read and the intensity is really intense.
