Hoover was born on December 11, 1979, in Sulfur Springs, Texas, the son of Vannoy Fite and Eddie Fennell. She grew up in the Saltillo, Texas and graduated from the Saltillo High School in year 1998. In 2000 she married Heath Hoover, with whom she has three children. Hoover has a degree in Social Work from Texas A&M-Commerce. She worked in various teaching and social work positions before beginning her writing career.

In November year 2011, Hoover began her first novel, Slammed, with zero intention of publishing it. She was inspired by a songs lyric “decide what to be and go be it” from an Avett Brothers song, and “Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise”. Because of this, she included the Avett Brothers lyrics throughout the story. After a few months, her novel was reviewed by book blogger Maryse Black and she was given a 5-star rating, and sales of her first two books increased rapidly.

In the annals of TikTok discourse, you’ll find the BookTok universe full of literary-minded app users analyzing their recent reading and delving into new releases. Recently, the community turned Colleen Hoover’s works into heartwarming short videos, and with her new novel It Starts with Us, acquired by Simon and Schuester, the content is sure to continue.

While Instagram is the place to be for reading finely curated post frames, TikTok is the rawer, sleepier alternative for Hoover fans. A quick search of the hashtag #CoHo in the app reveals videos with moody music, an influx of sobbing emojis, and injury requests because they may hurt less than reading your books; “Slap my face”, “Break my legs”, the list goes on.

What is “It starts with us” about?
The synopsis for the upcoming novel reads, “Before it was done with us, it started with Atlas,” which leads us to believe that it may be a first-person account of the character introduced in the previous novel. “Colleen Hoover tells the fan-favorite Atlas side of the story and shares what’s next in this highly anticipated sequel to the Sunday Times bestseller, End Us.”

Hoover’s oeuvre spans more than 20 novels, and the prequel to her last book sold more than 250,000 copies in the UK alone. In addition to her work as an author, she and her family founded a nonprofit bookstore and book subscription service called Bookwork Box, which has donated more than $1 million to various charities.

When will It Starts with Us be released?
More details about It Starts with Us are expected to emerge later in the year. The book is expected to come out sometime in October, so there’s plenty of time to stock up on tissues and prepare ourselves, and our TikTok algorithm, for the experience.

First, let me say this: There will be a lot of hate for this book for the sole reason that people won’t like this author just because of his popularity.

With that said; I read It Ends With Us in 2016. I really loved how it ended, I thought it was the end. I never expected it to start with us and yet I couldn’t think how beautiful and necessary this addition is.

It Starts With Us shows the consequences of abuse in all its forms. It shows how realistic, how tragic, and how even a happy ending is still overshadowed by the pain and memories of the abuse.

We see Lily and Atlas as one and we see them really falling in love. I really appreciated that aspect.

Atlas has always been book buff material, but this book really cemented it as one of the good, if not top 10 book buffs. I didn’t expect this to get 5 stars from me, my favorite Colleen Hoover book is Reminders of Him, but it really deserves 5 stars because it was so thoughtful, down to earth and just beautiful.

End With Us was about Lily and her journey to end the cycle of abuse. It starts with us and is about Lily and Atlas as they navigate through life after completing their own cycles.

We have reached the shore that becomes You can go home now.

This was the perfect sequel to It Ends With Us, Colleen gave Lily and Atlas something they well deserved.
This book is an emotional roller coaster in the only way Colleen knows how to deliver, it touches your heart and closes a story that has had a profound impact on many people.
It Starts With Us is the epilogue to Lily and Atlas’ story, offering insight into their past and the new challenges ahead. They show their love, strength, fears, perseverance and much more.
Thank you Colleen for giving us Lily and Atlas on It Ends With Us and thank you for giving us the After on It Starts With Us!

If Ending With Us broke you like it did, give this book a chance to bring you back together because Atlas and Lily are TOTALLY worth it. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t the biggest fan of IEWU. I’m slow on processing and it took me several days to realize how raw and dark it was getting. When it was over, I needed more. I longed for a stronger ending. Hoover is a phenomenal writer and this sequel picks up right where the prequel left off. The way he portrays Lily’s fears and struggles as a single mother sharing her life with her former abuser really hurts.

I’m glad to see this book doesn’t get too bleak, but it doesn’t hide the many shades of gray we deal with in life, especially dysfunctional family members. We finally learn more about our favorite book friend, Atlas Corrigan, and boy does he bring a lot to the table and then some. The quotes from him still swoon and are worthy of being printed on t-shirts or on your skin. This book is the perfect bow tie for one of the best love stories we almost didn’t get. It’s about actually capturing men to the Atlas standard.

What makes this book so great is that Colleen Hoover is up against real life. She really understands love. She correctly understands the ryles and atlases of the world. She correctly understands the complexities of blood family and chosen family. She understands survival and the cycle of abuse well. She has the right hope and opportunity. As a survivor and father and co-father, I have spent years not knowing the difference between real love and abuse.

Reading this series was cathartic. I think it offers clarity to both survivors and people who don’t understand the cycle of abuse. Colleen serves it all up with fierce honesty, humor, and compassion. The only thing that could have used a little more was some Lily Atlas spice, but that’s something she’ll probably discover in the future in a box under a squeaky floor in her house by her husband’s crazy new friend… (See what I did there?)
