The first book was about Shiloh and her life with all its obstacles. The second book focused more on his relationship with the Stone brothers. This is a perfect balance of the above two and he gave me exactly what he wanted. The suspense is resolved immediately, so that was a relief, but this book will make your heart pound with excitement. Shiloh’s life becomes hectic and he feels unbalanced.

His gut tells him something is wrong, but he doesn’t want to overreact. The school bullies, the corrupt sheriff, and the creepy Jacob are constant threats, so she rationalizes the sentiment.

Logan still tries to get him to move, but even Ian agrees it’s not necessary. He is worried that Mr. X will find her and take the kids out to get to her, but they already have plans. Whether they have to fight or flee, they won’t back down from Mr. X or anyone else. Although full of horrors, there are also many sweet moments.

We get information about their relationships with each of the children individually, but the dynamics of the group are always at play. And while I don’t want to spoil any twists, it’s safe to say that Knox is finally, FINALLY embracing the show, albeit in his own stubborn way.

The wait for this book has been excruciating and I fear that the wait for its completion will only get worse. This cliffhanger is the most brutal of all and literally has me screaming at a book that I swear is not for me. Usually. This is a series that I will read again before the next release. There are so many little things that didn’t seem important but then look different.

I want to experience it again with this knowledge. I love these characters and this series and always want more. Everything is perfect: the writing style, the action, the pacing. I would give these books ten stars out of five if I could. It’s almost impossible to do a decent review without spoiling the story, but I think my enthusiasm speaks volumes.

This series gets better with every book. I have been dying for this book ever since I finished the last one and couldn’t open it fast enough. Shiloh seems to keep taking a step forward, only for something or someone to come from her and push her back a few.

Once again, she is trying to figure out her relationship with her children, see what can be done between her uncle and her, and deal with the people who persecute her. She just can’t catch a break. We do have some amazing moments with her and the boys though. I love everything about her relationship and enjoyed seeing some light-hearted moments.

Of course, it wouldn’t be as good without the angst-inducing fear of who she might be around or what someone might be up to. For much of the second half my heart was pounding, waiting for something to happen. I always felt that something terrible was coming, but this ending was not what I expected. I trust the author that everything and everyone will be fine because the other options are very bad.
