I loved! It felt so original to focus on the strength and determination of the single mother heroine and the problems of making assumptions. There is a great deal of romance between neighbors and lovers, and seeing the subtle shifts in dynamic was immensely satisfying. Our hero is a grumpy jerk who isn’t that likable at first, but by the end he completely melted my heart.

Big faints. It’s a meandering, slow burn with a bit of hiss towards the end, and there was never a dull moment for me. Sure, it has a lot to do with the single mother element, and the story tackles difficult issues like domestic violence, abuse, and sexual harassment, but it made it feel richer and more unique. The build of intimacy was amazing and it’s the kind of story that will stay with me for a long time. Highly recommended.

As a single mom juggling multiple jobs, college, and the judgment of other moms, Madison is nervous. Add the weight of a past that won’t let go, a grumpy neighbor and echoes of reformed love, and you have a searing reality rarely seen in books starring a single father.

Her struggles and the stigma everyone associates with Maddie aren’t pretty and her life isn’t perfect, but the honesty and depth her character allows is inspiring and what makes this story so remarkable. There’s a certain layer of vulnerability masked in the tension James created as Maddie’s heart is ripped out, with each piece presented in an act of vulnerability that many can relate to.

“Meet Me Halfway” features excellent characterizations that are consistent and complete; perfectly imperfect in beauty and ugliness. At those demonstrations, I’ve laughed, I’ve cried with them and for them, I’ve sheltered the chills and rising anger at signs of bullying and prejudice, and I’ve felt all the butterflies for what Maddie and Garrett have built together.

The chemistry was a blazing fire, and seeing how Garrett was with Jamie; My heart went to this man! The mother and son bond that Maddie and Jamie shared was equally enjoyable to read and Jamie is easily one of my favorite childhood characters of all time!
