I love these books. I keep re-reading them and always finding new reasons to love them. The characters and story are well thought out and each book is a perfect extension of the previous one. However, the books are less about the featured couple and more about trying to maintain so many character strands.
It’s really difficult to keep up with a lot of the characters, and those supporting characters make up the story, but it’s difficult to get to know the new couples. I wish some of the characters would return to their respective cities and fewer characters would be featured in each book. I highly recommend this series and can’t wait for the next volume.
Unit health seems to be getting better and better. Some series get stale, but we meet companions who are complete warriors, who face insurmountable situations that steal all hope, and with humor they make you laugh, they make you hold your breath, they make you feel that you are there and impatiently awaiting our next trip to the Pillar Cities ill-conceived. Once you start this series, each book is different but weaves together into an amazing series that you’ll love to find but hate because it’s not finished yet.
It was worth the wait and is a perfect continuation of the series. My Beacon is everything I love about Alanea’s books: funny, loving, heartbreaking, quirky and just plain awesome. There were many of the characters I’ve always loved, new characters I became obsessed with, and even some twists I didn’t see coming. I started reading My Beacon at midnight a minute after downloading it and didn’t stop until I finished a few hours later. The sleep I’m missing right now is worth the time I’ve spent reading.
