I devoured it in one sitting, it entertained me the entire time and I haven’t read a book this gripping in a long time, plus the original, horrible cover was replaced before release day. So I round up! The second half read much, MUCH better for me once I got a feel for the dynamic; It’s 100% pure instalove and lust, with strangers turning into lovers in the blink of an eye.

I loved that opposites dynamically attracted each other and the ZAP of electricity between these two was evident from the start. WOW, it’s steamy. This tough, attachment-phobic hero doesn’t know what hits him when he meets this humble school teacher who is finding strength in him. He soon discovers that he has a possessive, jealous and domineering streak…and she loves it all.

It took me a long time to process it, but in the end it comes full circle. All of my initial complaints became the book’s strengths, and its over-the-top connection softened into something completely intimate. Oh, and there’s a mystery side to it, so that was fun too!

The story follows Taylor, a second grade teacher who is excited to finally take her brother on a much-needed vacation. She’s renting a house on Cape Cod for the next few days, and the claw-foot tub calls her name. Unfortunately, the body she finds in the rented apartment has caused her vacation to take a very different turn. And though the sweet, gentle woman assumed her experience would terrify her, she only seemed to awaken an inner strength.

So when Taylor meets the bounty hunter assigned to solve the murder (it’s a long story), she reacts in unexpected ways. The man should be scary, he seems to scare everyone else, but it’s clear that Myles is incredibly attracted to Taylor. Myles warns Taylor early on, but the chemistry always seems to bring them together, and it’s not long before they’re both acting out of character.

This is exciting with a capital S, and it doesn’t take long to get there. Myles and Taylor have the kind of instant connection that jumps off the page, and it can be a lot to deal with at times. These situations aren’t easy either, so be prepared to fan yourself. I thought Myles was too much until we started to see the softer side of her, and then he turned into this adorable teddy bear who turns out to be a caveman. If jealous/possessive heroes aren’t for you, you might want to skip this one, but it certainly resulted in some super hot situations.

The development of both characters was really very good and I think that’s the point of the book: their lives completely change over the course of a week and they both have whiplash. They fight against the connection but continue to feel united, and the mystery of the crime is the perfect thing to unite them in their fight. There’s definitely an element of suspense, but the star here is the romance, with Myles and Taylor together in almost every scene. It’s entertaining, compelling and totally consumable,
