Overlord is a fantastic, out of this world, sci-fi novel that will captivate you from start to finish. This is my second book by Anna Hackett, she is a talented author with a wonderful writing style and it is great to see another side of her brilliant mind as she creates this imaginative and intriguing story and world full of equally intriguing and imaginative characters.

Characters that are easy to identify and connect with. Pilot Mallory “Mal” West is testing a new spacecraft in space when she gets trapped in a wormhole and crashes on an uncharted planet with galaxies far from Earth. She survives the crash, but the ship was blown apart on impact and the missing half of the spaceship contained her only other passenger, her friend Poppy, a scientist who is supervising the experiment. Desperately searching for her, Mal gets into trouble, a monstrous being she must fight, is injured in battle and eventually captured.

You don’t know what planet you are on or where you are in the universe. Overlord Rhain Zhalto Sakany finds himself in the middle of a battle to protect his planet from his father, who is sending monsters to attack his people. When he captured Mal, he didn’t know if she was working for his father, so he had to hold her until he found out. But Mal is determined to find her friend and no one will stop her, not even the High King.

Rhain catches her shortly after she escapes, but he has bigger fish to cook first and she not only helps him but proves a great asset working alongside him. It seems that the planet Zhalto matches Mal and she adapts in interesting ways.

The chemistry between her and Rhain is electric and undeniable. I loved how everything in this book unfolded, it’s an action packed story cleverly planned with plenty of drama, some scares, exciting and suspenseful moments, heartfelt thrills and an out of this world gripping romance. I look forward to what comes next in this amazing series and world you have created.

Exciting as Mal does her best and due to her martial arts background is a skilled warrior with swords and other weapons as well as hand-to-hand combat. Rhaine immediately recognizes her as her partner, but is even more shocked to see the ever-increasing power of Zholto’s energy field, which not only surpasses her own but can complement it and bolster its energies. Yes, destined. Very good plot and some sizzling heat between the sheets. Five stars are not enough!
