A woman with the gift of speaking to the dead, and the killer in pursuit, may be the only chance a crumbling empire has to contain true evil in this electrifying fantasy romance from the USA Today bestselling author.

Siora herself has been running from her past and her gift for longer than she cares to remember. Born with the ability to see and speak with spirits, she has heard her desperate pleas as an otherworldly predator stalks the dead amid the fertile battlefields of the collapsing Krael Empire. The creature’s power and reach grow with each soul it devours, but Siora is preoccupied with her own problems: a murderer who has sworn revenge on her.

Gharek of Cabast was once the right-hand man of the despised empress, but now he is a wanted fugitive. Though her reasons for hunting Siora are deeply personal, Gharek doesn’t know that when he finally finds her, she will hold the key to saving the world from her, or what’s left of it. To pay off old debts and protect the vulnerable dead from a malevolent force, Gharek and Siora must turn an enemy into an ally and trust that this will be enough to save each other.

He seeks revenge on the woman who betrayed him, but fighting for a shattered empire and a powerful darkness that rises to devour the living and the dead forces him to accept the mysterious woman he hates as an ally. Returning to the world of Fallen Empire for this particular story was a huge anticipation for me and it did not disappoint.

Raven Unveiled is the third installment in the tightly connected Fallen Empire series, concluding a narrative arc that began in the previous book.

Gharek, former assassin of the dead empress and Cat’s Paw, is currently the most hunted man in the ancient Empire, but that doesn’t stop him from tracking down the woman who really betrayed him and, worse, his daughter Estred. His desire for revenge blinds him to his surroundings and he almost ends up in the clutches of a dark shadow and is captured by a former general of the Empire hell-bent on wresting the remaining parts of the Empire from those who currently control it as well as he who possesses the desire. to kill Gharek for what really happened to his brother.

He siora saves Gharek’s life from a darkness that was about to engulf him, then confronts a powerful and ruthless general for Gharek. His shadow magic helps her see and hear ghosts, and he refuses to believe there is more to it than that. Confused by her motive in helping Gharek, she is determined to save him from himself, all for the sake of her daughter, Estred. Or so she tells him.

Raven Unveiled jumped right after the previous book Dragon Unleashed left. It was a bit, but Grace Draven did a good job of recapping while the actual action scenes drive the plot. The background is the aftermath that takes place after the Empress is killed. I felt the chill of the ghost realm and the somber moments of danger between the ghostly darkness that haunted Siora, Gharek and the others, the brute force of the army camp and the tension they were trying to avoid by being caught walking the streets of the City. . as Gharek has a bounty on his head.

Siora is an enigma in the other books and she starts out that way in this book, although she is allowed to share the narrative with Gharek. She possesses a magic that allows her to see and speak with spirits. She insists that she is not a necromancer: they enslave the dead. And she is just as determined to make Gharek understand that what he saw as a betrayal was that she acted on her and Estred’s behalf. She adores her daughter and sees something redeemable in him. She loved her courage and humility, but also her iron will, quietly strong in the company of men who would crush her.

Gharek did cruel things and I was glad the author didn’t try to cover up or apologize for him. This is a villain turned anti-hero at best. He pays the price for his reckless actions when he falls into the hands of people he has wronged and must trust that they are better than him to keep him alive, at least live long enough to see his daughter. protected from him. I liked learning about his background and watching him slowly let go of his need for revenge and his attempts to be a better man to Estred and Siora. The romance came slowly and deservedly, as Gharek has a long and hard journey out of darkness and onto the path of love ahead of him.

I have no idea if this will be the last book or if there will be more Fallen Empire but this was a story I wanted and it was satisfying. Fantasy isn’t a genre I take up very often, but this series had me hooked from the start and led me into the author’s writing and into the world of Fallen Empire. I would recommend this book/series to anyone who enjoys fantasy romance.
