Colleen Hoover (Margaret Colleen Fennell) (born in December 11, year 1979) is an author of young adult fiction and romance.

In January 2012 she published her first novel Slammed. In December 2012, she published Hopeless, which topped the New York Times bestseller list. Many of her works were self-published before being picked up by a publisher.

Hoover was born on December 11, 1979, in Sulfur Springs, Texas, the son of Vannoy Fite and Eddie Fennell. She grew up in the Saltillo, Texas and graduated from the Saltillo High School in year 1998. In 2000 she married Heath Hoover, with whom she has three children. Hoover has a degree in Social Work from Texas A&M-Commerce. She worked in various teaching and social work positions before beginning her writing career.

In November year 2011, Hoover began her first novel, Slammed, with zero intention of publishing it. She was inspired by a songs lyric “decide what to be and go be it” from an Avett Brothers song, and “Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise”. Because of this, she included the Avett Brothers lyrics throughout the story. After a few months, her novel was reviewed by book blogger Maryse Black and she was given a 5-star rating, and sales of her first two books increased rapidly.

Hoover published her first novel, Slammed, in January 2012 and a sequel, Point of Retreat, in February. They reached #8 and #18 on the New York Times bestseller list in August of that year. Atria Books picked them up and re-released them on August 10. A third book in the series, This Girl, was released in April 2013.

I wasn’t sure how to write this review or where to start with this review. This book was a lot and it’s hard to put it all into words.

I finished this book as fast i could. I just couldn’t leave it, I just had to know what was going to happen.

This is one of the saddest book I have read. Kenna’s story just broke my heart. This book really made me cry.

Kenna made a mistake that affected his whole life, and let’s face it, he wasn’t having the best life even before he made the mistake.

He was finally able to have a moment of happiness and it was taken from him in the hardest way.

He couldn’t believe how unfair her life was and he just wanted her to have one victory.

Ledger was a bit of a jerk at first, which was understandable given the situation.

But he was caring and considerate of the people he loved and extremely protective.

“I don’t like that the person I hate the most in this world reminds me of the person I love the most.”

After a while, he realizes that maybe he didn’t know the whole story and was led to believe something that isn’t true. And maliciously, but because it seemed so.

Ledger begins to see a side of Kenna that he didn’t know existed and sees her sadness in her, although he doesn’t want to, he realizes that he protects her from her.

Kenna does everything she can to try to redeem herself, but it always seems out of her reach.

Everyone judges her and they don’t know anything about what happened, the pain, the absolute desperation and the depression that she felt. She just broke my heart.

“So make up your mind now, right here. Will you live in your sadness or will you die in it?

Colleen Hoover really took me on a roller coaster ride on this book. You feel the pain of all the characters and her pain.

“Please don’t,” I whisper. “It hurts quite a bit.”

What was also really amazing was that while we were in the present of the story, we came to understand the past and the relationship between Scotty and Kenna. And how much they felt for each other.

This was beautifully written, I could literally put the book down all day. I just needed to know how things were going to end for Kenna, Ledger, and the rest of the characters.

“Maybe it doesn’t matter if something is a coincidence or a sign. Perhaps the best way to cope with losing the people we love is to find them in as many places and things as possible. And in case the people we’re losing somehow way they can still hear us, maybe we should never stop talking to them.

It takes Kenna a long time, but she finds a way to forgive herself for the mistake she made. And that she finds some kind of happiness. I really enjoyed this part and was very happy about it.

“Now that I have forgiven myself, the memories of him make me smile.”

Ledger and Kenna are such a good couple, I love that Ms. Hoover took the time to really get to know the characters and it wasn’t rushed. They peeled off each layer and nailed it all down. Which brought them even closer.

Colleen Hoover weaves a story of love, loss, and forgiveness that will make you cry and wish you could hug Kenna. He wanted so much for things to work out for her. And for someone who gives it a chance.

This is an amazing story that will bring out all your emotions and make you cry.

It’s no secret that Colleen Hoover knows how to write an emotionally charged story that could very well be the life story of any of us. The countless people who have read her books and then posted somewhere on social media that they are so completely connected to a particular story are endless. I see posts every day about how these stories affect their lives. And the book Reminders of Him is no exception.

I’m not saying that countless people can relate to the fact that this young woman spent years in prison for making a life-changing decision one night. I’m saying that countless young women can identify with Kenna as a person, as someone who grew up in the same environment she was exposed to. Who, for the most part, felt invisible all their lives, like they weren’t important or worth it, until they met a Scotty of their own.

Even though Scotty is gone, he plays such an important role in this story. He was still Kenna’s sounding board every day. He basically had no one in the world, so it was no wonder that all these years later she still clung to him as someone she loved, admired, and was devoted to. Though Ledger’s initial feelings toward her weren’t positive, he quickly became that physical person Kenna could turn to for the same comfort he had always gotten from Scotty.

I won’t lie, I found much of this book very heavy. As if there was never a way for anything positive to happen. It just felt like a situation ifn unbeatable output. Until finally some rays of sunlight began to filter through. I really have no idea how Kenna stayed on her feet every day. I feel like I collapsed a long time ago and never found a way to get up from these ashes.

This was a powerful read. It definitely pulls everyone’s heart. Ledger was from another world. Are there really guys like him out there? I’m pretty sure there is because I married one. I hope every woman finds her own ledger.

Fight for Diem. Kenna saved every penny she earned to return to the city where her boyfriend lived so she could meet her daughter.
Ahead. You, sit down. Join me for a reading on forgiveness, courage, and love. Put on your ears to listen and your hat to think. Colleen Hoover has a story to share with you. You have to listen to her words and absorb them. She’ll teach you a thing or two about parenting. She is prepared for the experience of it.

Colleen’s resistance to the color orange hit an orange truck.
Colleen is a good person inside and out. You can feel her traces in this book. Your writing voice is strong. Knowing what I know about Colleen from looking at her social media videos of her and photos of her interacting with family and friends, I feel like her moral high ground is there.

Memories of Him is about the relationship between children and their parents. He even talks about the impact on a child’s life and how it affects other people’s lives. Then there is a bond that a child has with his biological parents.

Colleen makes reading easy. She also makes writing look easy. Here I struggle to put thoughts into words as she has written an entire book of forty-two chapters and an afterword. I’m not as gifted with words as Colleen, but I do my best to convey how relevant her stories are. Every time she writes a book boom, I connect with the characters.

Colleen’s books don’t belong to a typical genre. Not many authors can create original and unique categories that no one else uses. Her stories are by no means cookie cutters of typical genres.

It’s deeply tender, raw, and the emotions run high. Colleen leaves me in a better mood after reading one of her books. I will leave better informed. She gives me advice even when I don’t ask for it. I have grown as a person by reading Reminders of Him. Through the actions and words of her characters, Colleen teaches her readers that forgiveness is a great step towards a happy life.
The only predictable thing about this story is the emotions you will feel. If this one isn’t tugging at your heart strings, you might be broken. Let’s see if you’re up for the emotional challenge.
