Secrets Kill book is the first book in the Avenge Her series. Fans of the Dexter and the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation will really love this mix of mystery, police thriller and also dark romance. Readers beware: This is one reason to opt for romance that involves violence, profanity, and sexual content.

Kate is like a female version of Dexter with her own little dark passenger waiting to come out and play. For the most part she appears to be a fairly level headed woman, driven by work and a little antisocial at times, but on the surface she’s still sane. Sometimes it only takes 1 thing, or in Kate’s case 5 people, to really blow someone over the edge.

Watching Kate go from being a quiet workaholic to a more confident woman with a darker side was so much fun. She’s a vigilante hunting down her sister’s killers, and she’s got to be admired for that. If she doesn’t, no one else will, and I have to say I’m here to see her take them down one by one. This book was just a taste of what he’s capable of so I’m excited to see how his plans will unfold in future books especially with his boys now involved and how this book ended on an amazing cliffhanger.

It’s hard to say how the next book will begin, but I think it’s going to be a wild ride nonetheless. However, what really interests me as this series progresses is whether justice for her sister will be enough to quell the darkness Kate carries within. Will it end after no? 5 or will its death toll keep rising?

This was an amazing first book in a series! I think the only thing I found disappointing about this book was that probably 95 percent or more of this book was from Kate’s point of view. I have absolutely no problem with that now. However, seeing his name listed under each chapter title and even though the scenes changed while he was still in his perspective made me hopeful that more of the boys’ perspectives would emerge.

I think there was only one in this book, not even a whole chapter, and I’m very confident that there will be more than that in the next book. Everything else was amazing though, so I wouldn’t let that put you off reading because Laurel always does an amazing job with her books.

If you’ve always wanted Dexter reimagined as a why-love romance, then this book is for you! What a great trip! This was a one day compulsory reading. I got totally into the story.

Investigator Kate Walker learns of her sister’s existence the day she is called to investigate the crime scene. When the five men who committed the murder are released despite overwhelming evidence, she refuses to continue the injustice. Even if she has to take her punishment into her own hands.

Secrets Kill is a slower build and slower burn, so why choose romance? Expect a greater emphasis on plot and relationships than outright smut. The s3x scenes are more sensual, almost FMC-worshipping, but still explicit. There is a lot of flirting between Kate and her sister’s old roommates, twins Diego and Miguel. (And the twins are always hot!)

I loved the character of Kate and how she deepened throughout the book. They ended up teasing us with some secrets that she began revealing to the men who backed her, though she never fully opened up to us readers. I want to hear more from her, her full story.

This book ends with a suspenseful melodrama. Book 2 can’t come soon enough. I need to know!

I would highly recommend Secrets Kill book to fans of The Dexter Show, CSI, or cop thrillers. As always, check CW/TW before you read.
