Here we go again taking me through so many emotions and taking me on such a journey in the pages of a single book. I’ve been involved in this story from the beginning, if only to figure out how the heck Marie James would bring these two characters from the epic group that was the moment to a HEA. I knew I had a lot of work ahead of me, but I was also brought to faith a long time ago, so I knew I just had to sit back and enjoy the ride as the story unfolded.

As always, I was not disappointed. But it was the way it all happened and all the emotions that went into it that really made the story what it was. There was so much I didn’t expect. It ties into what members of Cerberus are doing, which I didn’t see coming. Familiar baggage that crawls to meet characters out of nowhere. And of course wondering when Spade and Sylvie would act together to finally be happy.

But as if that wasn’t enough, Marie James had to go in and meet us with an ending I never saw coming. These books have definitely changed and evolved over time. It even gets a little darker and deeper. And I totally agree because after so many books he still managed to keep it fresh and new for readers like me who have been here since the beginning of the Cerberus books. But I still didn’t see it coming. And I can’t even begin to imagine how it’s going to change everything for the club or for certain characters. But I can’t wait to find out, either.

Spade is a slow burn that kept me going and ended with a mystery and shock that shook me. I read this book in one sitting because I was hooked! This story was full of tension, longing, stubbornness and a lot of hardship. But the love that lay just beneath the surface made me root for this couple because they were heartbreaking, passionate, and a seething fire that I knew would spiral out of control once these two collided.

While I wouldn’t have blamed Sylvie one bit for her icy attitude, and would have been humiliated too, I knew that once we figured out why Spade suffers from “current amnesia,” I knew I’d fall for this moody, sexy, and protective man. This book should only be read for the drive, the house, the shower, the lunch, the boys, the necklace, and Big Daddy. Can I just say that every time he comes up with his place in tips and reviews, Kincaid reminds me why he’s one of my favorites? When this story was over, he wanted a shovel of his own!
