My Thoughts: Tell Me Lies goes back and forth in time, but begins in the present with Lucy Albright attending the wedding of one of her best friends from college. She lives in Manhattan, but thoughts of her that day take her back to her college days in California.

Lucy and Stephen had those type relationships that never seemed to progress. They couldn’t stay together for various reasons, but they couldn’t stay apart either.

What brought them together? What kept them apart? His inability to make the relationship work or stay away from each other frustrated me on his behalf.

They all had past issues that fueled their mutual breakups, and those issues were serious enough that they seemed doomed to never get what they wanted from each other. As the story unfolded and each narrator shared moments that had moved them, it was easy to see that patterns of behavior were ingrained and that past traumas had contributed in some way. A shocking event from the past was revealed towards the end, bringing the story to its climax.

I found each of these characters frustrating and hoped that they would eventually be able to move on. But I was also curious to keep reading. I enjoyed how the author added this unique flavor to each setting from Los Angeles to Manhattan, allowing the reader to relive the moments with the characters: tasting the hot dogs or the drinks, feeling and seeing the atmosphere of the different bars and restaurants, the apartment interiors. and houses. A slower read than I usually choose, but it was enjoyable in the end.
