I want to start by saying that this ended on a cliffhanger. But let’s face it, every one of Nora’s magical books has been in trilogies and this one is no different. She was open about it being a trilogy. I knew it and when I pre-ordered the first book I waited until I had the second to read it. Read on her own if she wants to complain about the cliffhangers. Because there are those of us who live for a show. Who love the characters and worlds and want them to continue.

Well, with that said, this book was amazing and different from her normal romance. This one focused more on the story and not the love story, it just lit the candle of love instead of turning it into a roaring fire at the end of the first book. I love everything about Ireland and its history takes me there. It takes me to the magic I dream of every night.

Her strong female characters give this mother of three hope that female leaders are becoming the norm. She integrated LGBTQ into the story and her portrayal is great. I give this mother of an LGBTQ child the hope that more and more mainstream writers will give my children the representation they are seeking, to know that they are loved and valued and that they are part of this world.

The story ends on a cliffhanger, yes, but knowing in advance that it was a trilogy, she knew it would happen like any other book, but this one was definitely more abrupt. However, it will never stop me from reserving any magical books Nora has written. I am starting the second book and I know I will cry until November and eagerly await the third and final book before starting the process next November with the amazing story that Nora takes us next. Thank you for this gift and this adventure Nora!!! It was a brilliant trip!

Neutral thoughts:
The writing was a bit wrong. Sentences seemed to be missing words and the rhythm of dialogue was everywhere in the “non-magical” world we meet Breen in. That seemed cheesy to me. Like reading fanfiction and only reading it because overall it wasn’t bad, just a little ridiculous. I’m still interested in reading the series despite its camping because I think the world building was just as interesting as the overall problem. But this SERIOUSLY required some editing and formatting changes to help the narrative flow.

advantage:
The relationships there? I loved. Breen and Marco’s friendship!! It was so cute and healthy. They cared about each other a lot and were each other’s biggest supporters I loved reading their interactions. I also loved the relationship between Breen and his grandmother! You could literally feel the love that Marg (Breen’s grandmother) had for her and it was so healthy.

The romance(s):
We do see a relationship between Green and Keegan begin to blossom towards the end of this first book, and let me tell you, it’s MAXIMUM SLOW. If you’ve ever read The Queen’s Rising Duology by Rebecca Ross, Breen and Keegan reminded me of Brienna and Cartier’s relationship and how it developed. So if you liked their relationship, then I think you’ll like Breen and Keegan’s. They had some sweet bonding moments, but their relationship definitely feels underdeveloped and I look forward to seeing it grow in Book 2.
