This is the 2nd book in the Sunrise Cove series. I’ve read the first book but I don’t feel like you need to read the first book to know what’s going on, but I recommend you do because it’s a great series. This is a great romance novel with great characters.

Take Holmes and his mother April, who practically raised each other. They’ve had some pretty tough financial times, but things take a turn for the better when Tae lands a new contract with an adventure company for disabled athletes and wounded warriors.

Tae meets Riggs Copeland, an ex-Marine he hasn’t seen since their brief fling in high school. Tae begins asking April questions about her father, who she was told died in the Navy, although April refuses to talk about it. It is Riggs who unexpectedly comes to their aid to find out the truth.

A charming and emotional read with characters you’ll quickly fall in love with.

Jill Shalvis is an author you can count on for a great book. His books contain well-developed characters that will draw you in, friendship, family dynamics, humor, tears and everything in between. His books sometimes make you laugh out loud and hold your attention until the end of the book. His books are usually part of a series, but can also be read as a stand-alone novel. Don’t be surprised if, after reading one, you end up reading them all! You are so good. His books offer a great escape from everyday life.

The Friendship Pact is the second book in his Sunrise Cove series. Tae’s mother was just a child when she was born. She spent her life being the one in charge most of the time. She had been told that her father had died years ago and that she would never get more information from her mother. After hearing from someone who knew her surviving father, she was determined to find out the truth.

Join the help of Riggs Copeland, the last man she thought would help her. Riggs is a serious ex-Marine. He’s back to help his brother with his business. Tae and Riggs have been hurt in the past and the last thing they want is a relationship. They work together in the friendship to sort through their past. This story is about the love, friendship, family and also the second chances.

Tae Holmes and Riggs Copeland met growing up on the proverbial wrong side of the tracks in the Lake Tahoe area. They both had the opportunity to see if they could make something work as teenagers, but as they both struggled it would not be possible. Riggs left the area and joined the Marine Corps. Tae grew up in the area, stayed there and eventually became an event planner.

On a dark and stormy night, Tae is leading a huge fundraiser for a non-profit organization that works with disabled people and gets them outdoors. But it looks like it’s about to collapse as there aren’t too many people there. Tae leaves early to avoid an ex and ends up in Rigg’s car, thinking he’s the Uber driver she ordered. And the story starts from there.

Riggs eventually helps Tae find his father, and along the way these two imperfect souls realize that they complement each other. But it’s hard to heal the damage of old wounds, and Tae must choose between breaking free and falling in love with Riggs, or walking away.

This is another wonderful story from the wonderful and talented Jill Shalvis. It is part of a series, but like each of his series, it can be read on its own.
