I have been reading Lisa Jackson for a few years. I started reading her when she was mainly writing romance novels. She then got into the thriller genre and got even better. I like her books so much that I had this one on my wish list for a long time and then bought the book myself. It was money well spent and sleepless nights. That’s right, Mrs. Jackson, I’m going to hold you accountable for not getting enough sleep those nights.
The protagonist Caitlyn wakes up covered in blood to find her husband murdered in her study. She has many hours from the night before that she can’t explain. The police start harassing her because the evidence points to the Caitlyn. It also turns out that no one liked her husband and most of her doesn’t regret her leaving, including her family.
When Caitlyn keeps having strange dreams, she panics even more. Caitlyn becomes close to a new psychiatrist in town, Adam, who had temporarily replaced her regular psychiatrist, Rebecca. There are also questions about Rebecca suddenly leaving town, and there are also questions about missing medical records about Caitlyn. Caitlyn isn’t sure she trusts Adam either. She is also attracted to Adam. It turns out that Adam has his own secrets that he must hide for his own reasons.
Caitlyn also has a twin sister who is not in contact with anyone. Caitlyn desperately tries to contact her and believes she can solve the mystery of what happened the night her husband was murdered. Meanwhile, certain members of the family are also keeping their secrets and other bodies are turning up as well. I won’t say much more about this story as I think all readers should read this book. This is a story to remember, and also make sure you’re not home alone reading this book late at night.
This is one of the best books I have read in a very long time. I couldn’t read it fast enough. The story centers on the Montgomery family, one of the wealthiest and most influential families in Savannah.
The Montgomerys have suffered their share of casualties. There are also crazy rumors about the Montgomerys. There are also some incest and extramarital affairs. The grandfather of the family had an affair, which resulted in children. Well, Grandpa’s son had affairs with the children who were actually half-siblings, which resulted in more children. These children stayed on the outskirts, never recognized.
Well, they want their share of Montgomery’s wealth now so they can be involved in the latest round of murders. The story begins with the murder of Justin Bandeaux, who is in the process of divorcing Caitlyn Montgomery. Well, there’s evidence that makes it look like Caitlyn may be guilty. However, Caitlyn suffers from memory lapses. Caitlyn has siblings Amanda, Troy, and Hannah. She also has a twin Kelly.
It is unclear from the story whether Kelly is alive or dead or if she is a figment of Caitlyn’s imagination. Illegitimate children disappear. Legitimate Montgomerys have accidents and die and disappear. Who is responsible? A new psychologist for Caitlyn is thrown into the mix and some of her motives seem shady, but is it really dangerous for Caitlyn? I recommend this book to anyone who loves crime fiction, psychological mysteries, and Lisa Jackson.
