I have no words for this book. It was qite a roller coaster of emotions throughout the book. I apologize in advance if my review doesn’t make sense.

Also, make sure you have read all the other books before reading my review as it may contain spoilers for the previous books.

So the book picks up more or less where the last book left off; Casteel is imprisoned by Isbeth and Poppy trying to get him back. It was hard to see what would happen next, because as much as Jen is all for Happily Ever After, we all know that what happens between the beginning and the end is fair game and will surely play with our feelings along the way.

This series is no exception and oh my gosh you are going through all kinds of feelings.

So let’s start with how the bond between Poppy and Kieran grew throughout this book; the way they interacted with each other and how they anchored each other in Casteel’s absence. I really feel that way from the beginning, they always had a special bond even if they didn’t really seem to know it and I felt like that went beyond the bond that she has with the wolves.

Poppy is just as wild as before and he is much more confident and won’t back down from what she thinks is right. Honestly, the way she kept herself, we sometimes forget that she’s young and that not too long ago she was sheltered and largely oblivious to the truth.

Having the point of Casteel’s view was also just an added bonus to the story. I love being inside Poppy’s head, but I won’t lie, I wanted to be inside Casteel’s head too. I really felt like it added to the story and made us feel how deeply he felt for Poppy and all the thoughts and memories that were going through her mind. Also, I really felt that both perspectives would have caved in to throw more information at us.

poppies and casteel. These two together are almost perfect; They made love to something wild and are willing to do almost anything for each other.

And what can I say about the latest addition to this group… Reaver (or from the book A Shadow in the Ember in the Flesh and Fire series (aka ASITE), Reaver-Butt). I seriously love it. His banter with Kieran was quite entertaining and I loved how calm he seems to be most of the time.

You learn a lot in this book and answer many questions that were asked in the previous books. I swear it felt like every other chapter, we learned something new and I loved it because sometimes I felt like it made some things from the previous books make more sense.

Overall I loved the book. He had me in and out every time I had a minute to read. Once again, I highly recommend this series of books. I can’t wait for the next books in this series and see where it takes us next.
