Colleen Hoover (Margaret Colleen Fennell) (born in December 11, year 1979) is an author of young adult fiction and romance.

In January 2012 she published her first novel Slammed. In December 2012, she published Hopeless, which topped the New York Times bestseller list. Many of her works were self-published before being picked up by a publisher.

Hoover was born on December 11, 1979, in Sulfur Springs, Texas, the son of Vannoy Fite and Eddie Fennell. She grew up in the Saltillo, Texas and graduated from the Saltillo High School in year 1998. In 2000 she married Heath Hoover, with whom she has three children. Hoover has a degree in Social Work from Texas A&M-Commerce. She worked in various teaching and social work positions before beginning her writing career.

In November year 2011, Hoover began her first novel, Slammed, with zero intention of publishing it. She was inspired by a songs lyric “decide what to be and go be it” from an Avett Brothers song, and “Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise”. Because of this, she included the Avett Brothers lyrics throughout the story. After a few months, her novel was reviewed by book blogger Maryse Black and she was given a 5-star rating, and sales of her first two books increased rapidly.

Hoover published her first novel, Slammed, in January 2012 and a sequel, Point of Retreat, in February. They reached #8 and #18 on the New York Times bestseller list in August of that year. Atria Books picked them up and re-released them on August 10. A third book in the series, This Girl, was released in April 2013.

Layla—Colleen Hoover

A SURPRISING ROMANCE. Wow, I didn’t expect that… What a surprise! An original story, an amazing interlude, an AWESOME new romance – a MUST read! Another Colleen Hoover story that won’t disappoint!

“I can’t stand listening to him in this state, I love him so much, but I don’t know how to explain why I love him so much when I’m going through all this with him.”

Leeds Gabriel is… in agony. He has been playing bass in a band for so long that you could almost say he hates it. He doesn’t do anything special all day. He stands up backwards, goes around in circles and is bored to death…
“I lose a piece of my soul at every concert. Slowly. I’m afraid all that’s left of me is a lifeless body. »

…until he met Layla. His band plays at a wedding and only one woman dances: Elle. And she dances terribly bad. For him. Is it really for him? To make him laugh or because he really dances like that? Good question… which he will be eager to find out. They met at Layla’s sister Aspen’s wedding and haven’t been apart since… They couldn’t. A real lightning. Layla is so different, direct. She makes him see the world in a different light and she can’t wait to get up in the morning to see her. As the months go by, they will grow closer, live together and fall madly in love.

Unfortunately, life can be very short… tragic, moving and one event can change a whole life, your life, upside down at any moment. And in our story, suddenly a terrible accident happened. Sable, the former Leeds player, seriously wounds Layla with a gun… And the latter, like him, will take time to recover. To meet, Leeds takes his luggage and decides to take it to his meeting house, where Aspen’s wedding is to take place. However, strange events begin to happen as soon as they arrive… But with Layla’s memory loss and exhaustion, Leeds can’t explain what’s happening. So he is going to install cameras…

“My normality is nowhere. I exist… that’s all. At the same time, I don’t exist. I don’t know… it’s hard to explain.

  • You are a ghost?
    -I dont know.
-How long have you been here?
-I dont know. It’s something special, period. For me it is as it did not exist. I once looked at the living room clock for eight days just to see how long I could look at it.
    -You do not sleep?
-No. However, I am still tired. I don’t eat, but I’m always hungry. I can’t drink, but I’m always thirsty. I’m starting to think this is hell because there’s nothing worse than being hungry all the time. »

The latter, this being, takes possession of Layla’s body in order to express himself freely. As the days go by, Leeds will use the presence of the “entity” to find out more. His name is Willow. And Leeds is getting more and more into his arguments, but not the way things are going… Between his mistress and his ghost, Leeds is divided, mixed up and upset. He can’t help but help Willow, but not at Layla’s expense…despite his growing attraction to Willow.

“Layla has a right to know what goes on around her in this house. She ignores Willow’s presence. She doesn’t know that her body is used at night and I take advantage of this guilty pleasure.”

I don’t want to give too much away! What a novel! What an act! What tension! The author takes us into an original paranormal universe in two “times”.

Let me explain: there is the story and there is The Interview, so I would say that there are two voices in this story, twice. Leeds tells her story, his story, to a certain man during an interview (specific to certain chapters) to help Willow, and through the contributions of these different chapters (and the others) we learn about her past and present. Which I particularly enjoyed, similar to the 1994 movie Interview with the Vampire. I was terribly surprised by the story of Layla and Leeds.

One passage that particularly bothered me:
“I untie her hands and she immediately pulls me into the arms of her before bursting into tears… Layla grabs my neck and rests her cheek on mine before whispering in an anxious voice:

  • Please help me find my body.
    I closed the eyes.
  • I won’t stop fighting for you until we find him.

Colleen Hoover has a soft, flowing, funny, entertaining and endearing pen. We are quickly caught up in her pen, her addictive story. She expected to read a new romance, a sweet and touching story, but wow! She didn’t expect to pour gripping suspense with touches of original and moving romance. What a surprise! A perfectly catchy romance! We are rarely disappointed with a Colleen Hoover novel in our hands.

“Every second someone dies, and sometimes not in the best way.

Touching characters, a moving story, an original novel, a paranormal story full of intrigue and suspense that will surprise you. A psychological romance that took me completely by surprise, wow! Addictive! To read, to enjoy!

Summary :
When Leeds meets Layla at her sister’s wedding, it’s love at first sight. The chemistry between them is correct. They just love each other. But their beautiful story quickly turns to tragedy when Layla is seriously injured by a gun.

She is slowly recovering and when she leaves the hospital, Leeds offers her to stay at the place where they met, where it all began. Her peaceful atmosphere will be perfect for the still fragile young woman and she will allow them to meet. Because Layla has changed. Probably because of what happened.
But far from bringing Leeds the calm he hoped for, this place worries him. Strange events happen there that defy all her certainties. About Layla and who she really is.
