He is known for his work as the author and illustrator of more than 60 books under the pseudonym Dr. Seuss. His work includes many of the most popular children’s books of all time, which at the time of his death had sold more than 600 million copies and had been translated globally into more than 20 languages.

Geisel took the name “Dr. Seuss” as an undergraduate in Dartmouth College and as a graduate student in Lincoln College, Oxford. He left Oxford in 1927 to begin his career as an illustrator and cartoonist for Vanity Fair, Life, and other publications. He has also worked as an illustrator for advertising campaigns, notably for FLIT and Standard Oil, and as a political cartoonist for the New York newspaper PM.

In 1937 he published his first children’s book To Think I Saw It on Mulberry Street. After the war, Geisel returned to writing children’s books, writing such classics as If I Ran the Zoo, Horton Hears a Who!, The Cat in the Hat, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, Green Eggs and Ham, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, The Sneezes, The Lorax, The Butter Battle Book and Oh the Places You’ll Go Go. He has published more than 60 books throughout his career, which have spawned numerous adaptations, including 11 television specials, five feature films, a Broadway musical, and four television series.

Love this story!! It has a wonderful message for anyone of any age. I first read this when my son was a baby reading a series of Dr. Seuss books and we read it as often as I can. I always make sure to highlight certain parts, both positive and negative, and discuss them with him (he’s 6 now). It’s incredibly inspiring and teaches you to follow your heart, reach for the stars, and never let anything stop you.

But it also teaches you that things don’t always go according to plan and you can find yourself lost and not where you want/expect to be. But how you bounce back from these situations is just as important as when everything goes exactly the way you want.

Quite simply, this is an amazing book with a lot of exclamation points! It makes me laugh. Inspires a positive mental attitude. It makes me want to grab the nearest child (preferably one of my own), sit them down, and impart the advice. Unashamed optimism leaps from almost every page as the story follows a little boy in yellow overalls on his journey through many strange and colorful places. I like to think that it is the first self-help book for children, full of positive messages.

With this Dr. Seuss classic, you literally can’t go wrong! I’ve known it since my childhood, along with all the other books by him! .Although this book is geared towards children, Oh The Places You’ll Go really does relate to any life event for any age group, especially graduation!

I chose to think outside the box for this book and am using this inspirational Dr. Seuss book as a graduation “card” for my partner when he graduates from his Ph.D. in a few weeks! I’ll congratulate him on the inside cover and tell him how proud I am of his accomplishments! As Dr Seuss says so gracefully in this book: “You are on your way to great places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting for you! So…go for it!!”
