Chasing Us (The Dark Love Series – Book 2)

In “Chasing Us” we interact with Charlie and Lex. Pretty much where the first book left off, only now I can tell you that Charlie left the Hamptons and Lex for a tabloid story that broke up an overnight relationship about Lex and Victoria, and this was the morning after they “drew.” married”.

It seems like we’re right back where she started, only this time Charlie is gone, leaving her with a group of people wondering how she’s coping. However, Charlie has her security mechanism, Ignore, Go and Shutdown, as well as ordering security to keep Lex out of the building. Probably not the best way to deal with this, but if it works for you; then go with what works.

Charlie has to do some soul searching. Will she break up with Lex? Will she calm down over time and give him a chance to explain himself? To make matters worse, she finally comes to terms with how she feels about Julian. She then feels that she needs to clean up at least that part of her life.

I don’t like to give too much away if I can help it in reviews, but I’ll give you a hint, Charlie eventually comes to terms with everything that happened to Lex when he moved to Connecticut and tells him about her as well. Julian handed her ring back.

Yes, there are a lot of things I won’t cover in this review, but if you read book two, you’ll see that there have been changes in Charlie and Lex’s lives. They faced some normal problems, like getting used to not being the only person in charge, finding a new place to live, a trip to see Charlie’s father, as well as newcomers, and a move that affects every character in this book. There is love, laughter, and a couple continuing to have a sexually tense relationship, and there is profound loss that could end a marriage.

I have to say I’m still not the biggest fan of Lex, but I have to commend Charlie for the growth I’ve seen in her over the year covered by this book. There is hope, but both characters involved must be present and work towards a positive ending for it to work. We hope everyone involved continues with Book 3 of Kat Masen’s Dark Love series.

Let me tell you something, don’t go into this book thinking you’re ready for it. This is no ordinary love story. I didn’t expect this story to grab me. Upside down, front to back, rolled up. I seriously underestimated this story and now that I’ve completed the Lex and Charlie story (books 1 and 2) I’m a complete mess covered in snot and tears.

I have never read a book as emotionally charged as this in my life, but damn! I will miss this couple. That was hard to read. As I mentioned, emotions run high all the time. It makes you nervous and anxious and as the story unfolds it becomes a revolving door of first, second, third and fourth chances and how many times it must take to get things right despite being soul mates and all the baggage in your life. past that always sets. on the way to your happily ever after.

As I sit here contemplating this story, it still breaks me, as unnerving and heartbreaking as it was, it was so stunning and tragically beautiful. I love everything presented in those first two books. First loves, traumatic pasts, fights and reconciliations, second chances, learning to persevere, trust and forgive. Learn that not all relationships are perfect and require work, but knowing that you are a team and together you can overcome anything.

I appreciate that Kat shows us a completely different side of relationships, that not all of them are sweet and innocent. They also have an ugly side, and it’s one that isn’t talked about or portrayed in the books. As much as this was hot dumpster fire mayhem, I appreciated all of it. It was refreshing. This book really amazed me and I will never forget it. Everyone should see this captivating story. I can’t wait to get into the third book.
