Viv didn’t just move upriver to join a rival fishing company, but also barricaded himself behind Beau Sutton, the boy Kit once loved from afar. The man who even now stirs something in Kit’s depths. .

Amidst old-fashioned oyster roasts, trips to starry creeks, and sun-soaked fishing expeditions, Kit finds hope for a new life—and love. Neither the whispered scandals of the past nor the rupture between her families will prevent them from discovering the joys that they and Beau can share…

This wonderful book by Janet Daley was an emotional roller coaster. She wasn’t sure what to expect when Kit Teague returned to Hope Creek in South Carolina’s Barrier Islands after a 15-year absence. Her sister is not home, her brother with special needs is cooking and her father is passed out in her room. She watches all this from the window while she is locked outside of her childhood home.

Then, she practically breaks down the door of her next-door neighbor’s house as she searches for her sister (who locked her up) and answers what’s happened over the last decade and a half. On top of that, her first crush, Beau Sutton, has returned with her 15-year-old son and more questions. I wasn’t sure where we were going in this story, but as I read, I found wonderfully flawed people in the Teague and Sutton families and their ways of dealing with grief, abandonment, betrayal, and also ultimately, love.

He was involved in the slow and painful journey of Kit and her twin Viv back home, the acceptance of what happened to her mother and the others, and Kit beginning a relationship from her heart. Ms. Daley took me on a roller coaster of emotions of anger, frustration, laughter, and love. There are so many emotions to reveal and discuss in this book that I think it would make a great book club read.
