Savage Bonds is a full-length reverse harem PNR novel with material that may be difficult for some readers. This book will end on a cliffhanger.

It is recommended for those over 18 years of age due to the language and sexual situation.

What was that cliffhanger?! I am so confused as to why things ended this way. Oli is quite powerful, so being “the decoy” doesn’t make sense to me. Also the scene with the chip made me wonder if I missed something. Didn’t everyone know about Oli’s restraints that she was splintered after Tac’s team brought her in at the beginning of the first book? What am I missing?!

The story proceeds at a moderate pace with Oli returning after the incident that ended in the previous book. Everyone is scared of her and threatened by her group of 6 her links because they all seem to have really strong first level powers. The resistance continues to move as Oli refuses to reveal all of her secrets about her ties.

I don’t know why, but for some reason Nox reminds me of Ash Beaumont from Hannaford Prep with his pissed off attitude. I love how the boys had more of an impact in this book. Gryphon…damn, this guy made me blush with his dirty talk. ? Luckily North has also recovered a bit. But I can’t shake the feeling that something is wrong with Atlas! Maybe it’s mine. Because he suddenly accepted Oli and didn’t care what she had done in the past. And how did he suddenly recognize everything that Oli is capable of?! All that dialogue towards the end where she explains the actual core power of hers seems a bit strange. As if he knew?! What?!!!

There wasn’t much to make me sit on the edge. I wanted so much more to happen and was quite disappointed that the book ended too soon!

Is it also strange that I find a lot of lips in Oli? There’s a scene where he’s wearing a playsuit and I couldn’t help but compare it to the exact same scene that happened in Play The Game, right down to the ties and the extra playsuit that seemed almost obscene to everyone. I don’t know… I’m just mad that another character has scenes similar to one of my favorite characters. It’s crazy because both characters belong to J Bree, but I can’t help but be weirdly possessive of Lips and his story.

This is one of the best books written in this genre. The author is so adept at plotting her that every twist and turn came out of nowhere and she shocked you to the core. There is great character development. All the characters develop throughout the book and the changes in their behavior do not seem to be abrupt. The basis of trust between Oli and her bond develops organically.
I have a more detailed review below.

writing style
The writing style is very sophisticated and non-intrusive. The tone is very contemporary and the reader will not be bored.

characterization
All the characters, both main and secondary, are very well written. They are designed in such a way that even their everyday interactions seem non-trivial and their jokes are hilarious.

rhythm of history
In my opinion, the story has a medium pace. It’s a balance between character-driven and action-driven story. Neither relationship building nor plot is compromised in this book.

Characters-

Oleander Fails – She is 19 years old. She is the central link to Gryphon, Nox, North, and Atlas. A lot of information about her powers is revealed. She is a strong FMC who always stands up for herself.

Gabriel – He is 19 years old and goes to Draven University with Oli. He is a shapeshifter. He is more devoted to Oli and acknowledges her mistakes.

Atlas Bassinger – He is 20 years old and also accompanies Oli to university. The power of him is revealed in this book. He is very protective of Oli.

Gryphon Shore: He is 23 years old and is the commander of the tactical team. He is a very considerate person and does not easily jump to the wrong conclusions. He is the sensible member of the Bond group.

Nox Draven: He is 23 years old and is a history teacher for the gifted at Draven University. He is a broken hero and although his past trauma is not revealed, it is obvious that he damaged him. There is a slight improvement in his behavior towards Oleander, but I’m sure when he comes out of his shell he will be one of the most beloved characters in this series. He is Gryphon’s best friend.

North Draven: He is 28 years old and has a position on the Gifted Council. He is the leader of his union group and is the one who usually makes decisions for his group. He is a bit controlling, but this book reveals the softer side of him, which he tries to mask with an impenetrable attitude to avoid injury.

The book also has other supporting characters like Sage who is Oli’s best friend and has the power of fire. He has a very small story arc of his own that complements the plot without deviating from his main story arc.
Then there’s Sawyer, Sage’s brother and Gabe’s good friend.
Felix, one of Sage’s love interests.
Kieran, Gryphon’s assistant.

Overall, this is a great story. I was a bit hesitant to go into this because I’ve never read this genre before, but the story itself is great so I think you’ll enjoy it immensely. This is the second book and you must read the first to understand the events.
Good luck to J Bree for writing the third book, as he has set the bar very high.
