This was the seventh part of the Guild Hunter world, set after the battle for the city.
Not only can we bring them back up to speed with Raphael and Elena, but we can also spotlight Ashwini and Janvier, who I’m dying to hear more about.

Ash is a guild hunter and Janvier is a charming, soft-spoken Cajun vampire.
These two played the long game, indulging in a unique courtship that involves plenty of knives and flirtatious innuendos.

Janvier is very fond of his Ashblade and makes no secret of the fact that he considers her his slayer, but as much as Ash craves her affection, he also harbors secrets that he believes will influence how he feels for her. The distance he keeps is a form of protection for him and her.
But with strange happenings in the vampire neighborhood, the two are forced to team up again when they are called in to investigate.

This closeness will ultimately prove crucial to them when Ash finally finds the courage to open up to his Cajun vampire.

I also loved that we were able to learn more about Naasir, he is so fascinating and what we learned about him here only piqued my interest even further.
I love that it’s totally original and it takes a special partner to really understand and appreciate it.
I also liked his take on relationships when he spoke to Ash about wanting a partner of his own.

This was a varied episode which I really enjoyed, it’s a fabulous series that keeps coming and I’m looking forward to the next episode.
Before I say goodbye I have to say that the ending here was very touching and that Janvier and his Cher make a lovely couple.

After the epic battle in the previous book in the series, the town is still suffering the aftermath, as is Ashwini, who was badly injured.

Ashwini is a guild hunter and like everyone else has supernatural powers. While recovering from an injury, a mummified dog is found and asked by his boss to investigate. What should have been an easy check-up turns into a nightmare due to the nature of the deterioration found in the dog. Another human sacrifice follows.

Janvier is a vampire who idolizes Ashwini and helped nurse her back to health when she was injured. In the previous books, whenever her name was mentioned, Ashwini threatened to kill him, but in a kindhearted way. In this book, we discover how they really feel about each other, but Ashwini has secrets that prevent them from starting a relationship. Now they work together to find a killer who preys on young women and they make the perfect team. Then there’s Naasir, a slightly different vampire. Together they bring humor to an otherwise grim situation.

I have really enjoyed every book in this series and this one is also no different. It brings with it danger, betrayal, cruelty, friendship, love and also loyalty. I would recommend it to those who enjoy reading the paranormal genre.
