Honestly, at this point I’m pretty sure Karin Slaughter could write a shopping list and devour it, love it, and sing its praises for being so good. She has been my favorite author for decades, and although some come close to her, she still holds her own. However, if I had to tell you which of her novels I liked the least about her, I would probably say Pieces of Her, which doesn’t bode well since Girl Forgotten is a sequel.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the writing, as I always do, and even got five stars from me, but wow, that Andy character was an absolutely annoying bunch of annoyances. For example, I couldn’t even get past the second episode of the Netflix series because I immediately remembered why I didn’t like it. So I wasn’t thrilled at all about going out with Andy again!

Andy was dying to grow up and, to my surprise, it seemed that he was listening. As Girl Forgotten begins, Andy is about to graduate as a US Marshall, much to Andy’s mother’s annoyance. His first task seems simple enough: protect a judge who is receiving death threats. But in reality, Andy is there to find out the truth about what happened to the judge’s daughter forty years ago and if Andy’s father, who is currently in prison, might have something to do with it.

You could have knocked me down with a feather when I realized Andy wasn’t as annoying as he remembered. In fact, I actually quite liked it this time. I really enjoyed watching her try to navigate her newly chosen career and learn the ropes from her Bible companion who is absolutely on her knees!

The Bible is one of those characters that draws the reader in with genuine warmth and a healthy dose of humor from the moment he steps on the page. I really hope that we will see it more often in the future. Anyway, this Andy is nothing beyond Andy. He learns from his mistakes, sees things from different perspectives, shows how smart he is, and is determined to get her first job. she grew

Unfortunately, forty years ago, a seventeen-year-old girl named Emily was not so lucky. She would never grow up. She wouldn’t even live to see her eighteenth birthday because by the end of prom night, Emily would be dead. Dispose of as trash in a trash can. Her close circle of friends, her clique, closed ranks. Life in the town of Longbill Beach continued and Emily’s murder was never solved. Will Andy be able to bring closure to the Emily’s family and finally get the Emily’s so-called friends to talk about that night?

Friends. pooh. With friends like that, who the hell needs enemies. The gang, minus Emily, is made up of four of the scariest, most toxic people of all time! It applies to them as teenagers and they didn’t improve at all as adults. It makes a lot of sense to think from the start that one of them is responsible for the things that happened to Emily.

But if so, which ones? Or are they all together? And what about Emily’s teacher, who left school shortly after her death? And what does that have to do with Andrea’s father? Every time she thought she was going to do things, she had second thoughts. Everyone in this small town is the suspect.

I devoured ‘Girl, Forgotten’. I loved present and past chapters alike, and that rarely happens. There is so much harmful and destructive behavior in this novel. It’s not just in the cabal’s actions, but also in Emily’s family background. Her mother, is a judge whose career will always be the more important than anything else.

Who puts appearance above a healthy family life. It broke my heart to see that the only person Emily could turn to was her grandmother, who suffered from dementia. There are a multitude of skeletons in the closets that are discovered as Andy’s investigation continues, and one wonders how different things might have been if people had been willing to find out the truth. Maybe Emily would have been alive.

Girl, Forgotten is another compelling and cleverly directed novel by Karin Slaughter. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I don’t think she can be wrong. I didn’t think she wanted to spend more time with Andy, but I was wrong. Also, I really want to go out with her again and if you can get something out of the last few pages… Well, I’ll let you find out for yourself.
