Colleen Hoover (Margaret Colleen Fennell) (born in December 11, year 1979) is an author of young adult fiction and romance.
In January 2012 she published her first novel Slammed. In December 2012, she published Hopeless, which topped the New York Times bestseller list. Many of her works were self-published before being picked up by a publisher.
Hoover was born on December 11, 1979, in Sulfur Springs, Texas, the son of Vannoy Fite and Eddie Fennell. She grew up in the Saltillo, Texas and graduated from the Saltillo High School in year 1998. In 2000 she married Heath Hoover, with whom she has three children. Hoover has a degree in Social Work from Texas A&M-Commerce. She worked in various teaching and social work positions before beginning her writing career.
In November year 2011, Hoover began her first novel, Slammed, with zero intention of publishing it. She was inspired by a songs lyric “decide what to be and go be it” from an Avett Brothers song, and “Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise”. Because of this, she included the Avett Brothers lyrics throughout the story. After a few months, her novel was reviewed by book blogger Maryse Black and she was given a 5-star rating, and sales of her first two books increased rapidly.
Hoover published her first novel, Slammed, in January 2012 and a sequel, Point of Retreat, in February. They reached #8 and #18 on the New York Times bestseller list in August of that year. Atria Books picked them up and re-released them on August 10. A third book in the series, This Girl, was released in April 2013.

Charming, hilarious, outstanding and…I’m trying to think of another ‘O’ word…orgasmic? nope Maybe with this book…
I think my favorite books by Colleen Hoover are novellas. I’m serious. Finding Cinderella was absolutely perfect, and I think Maybe Not was pretty perfect too. Sometimes you don’t need all that extra stuff, you know. The sides and the sauce, all the toppings and nonsense. Sometimes all you need is meat, the meaty stuff that really fills you up and nourishes you (nothing against vegetarians, you’re superhuman). Maybe it wasn’t 130 heartfelt words.
This novel featured two characters (whom I loved!) from Maybe Someday, Warren and Bridgette. Warren is a lovable prankster and Bridgette is, well, a nasty slut. He’s fun and free, and she’s angry and tense. A match made in romance paradise.
Desperate, Bridgette moves into Warren’s apartment and he struggles (not too hard) not to get tough with his roommate. Of course, Bridgette hates Warren with a burning passion, and the more heated the hatred she throws at him, the more he burns for her and the more attracted to her he becomes.
The best thing about this book was the sexual tension, which is something I’ve never said about a Colleen Hoover book. His signature style of sass, humor and emotion was ubiquitous, but made even more impressive by his sex appeal. Warren and Bridgette’s love story went from funny and salacious to a genuine connection that I thought was romantic.
I loved learning more about these younger players and fell in love with their heartwarming love story. I read this because I wanted something entertaining to distract myself for a few hours, but when I finished I realized that there was a sincere romance hidden in what seemed a small and light package.
