Another win for Shea. I loved how this book continues the development of the elves, their lore, and everyone’s relationships. I loved watching Chloe get stronger and gain more confidence. I loved everything about it.
EXCEPT: Without giving spoilers, I don’t entirely agree with the reason the book ended. It felt weak and a poor apology for what had happened. There could definitely be a better way to end the book where it ended, for whatever reason I think it will be answered in book 3.

I just hope things between Chloe and Noctus in 3 unravel quickly and don’t drag on as long as Hazel and Killian. I would enjoy the book more of the two developing a relationship as a couple, during the battle with the tracker, and less…pulling things out, like again with Hazel and Killian. I wish for a different kind of story from this trilogy.
This is the 4 time he’s separated the main couple in the 2 book, just only to spend most of the 3 going back and forth before finally saying, “No, I really love you!” and getting together It’s kind of exhausting to have that rinse-and-repeat model that Shea does for this world when it comes to the main couple’s relationship. I’m asking Shea to PLEASE do something different here. As previously mentioned, we prefer to experience Chloe and Noctus as a couple rather than just quick epilogues hoping for a cameo in another book.
This story just keeps getting better. Now I curse myself for reading it so quickly even though book 3 isn’t out yet.
Chloe and Noctus are great. I think they are well balanced. Ker, Charon, Aristides are very funny. French fries are delicious…whatever you call it, bumping into things and going places it shouldn’t be.
Just read the book! Unless you keep your sanity by waiting for the third book to come out. If that’s the case, I applaud your self-control.
