Maybell Parish has always been a dreamer and also a hopeless romantic. But living in her own world was always preferable to dealing with the disappointments of real life. So when Maybell inherits a charming Smokies house from her great-aunt Violet, she jumps at the opportunity to start over.

When he arrives, however, his troubles appear to have only just begun. Not only does the house collapse around her, she’s not the only heiress either: she has to share everything with Wesley Koehler, the grumpy and beautiful gardener, and it turns out he has a very different vision for the future of the house. Property.

Convincing the taciturn Wesley to stop avoiding her and commit to her is a daunting task than the other death wishes left behind by Great Aunt Violet. But when Maybell spots something unexpectedly cute beneath Wesley’s frown and the two begin to let their guard down, they may learn that sometimes the smallest steps outside of one’s comfort zone can really lead to the greatest rewards.

Perfection. There’s no sophomore slump here; this is beautiful, different and a bit tasty. I literally cried tears of joy and ended up crying like a baby. It’s like sitting in your very own blissful place, where everything is charming and romantic, full of tropical goodness and more complex than meets the eye. The tone is so unique and stunning, with multi-layered characters and a multi-faceted relationship – I couldn’t have predicted how deep this would go, but it got me through every emotion.

That slow burn is the right kind of torment, from less than nothing to just EVERYTHING. And the dynamic? I have to give credit to the author, she came up with a different scenario that I’ve never read before and that’s saying something. Enter this blind; It’s a lot more complex than it appears on the surface, but it’s perhaps THE most romantic book I’ve ever read.

The story follows Maybell, a shy, insecure, and possibly unforgettable woman. He prefers to live in his personal dreamland, imagining various hopelessly romantic scenarios that are a million times better than real life. All that changes when Maybell inherits her great-aunt’s estate, including a huge abandoned house that needs a little maintenance. The problem? His co-heir. Wesley is the grumpy gardener who’s been taking care of his aunt for the last few years…and he’s also the man who will make Maybell’s life miserable.

As with You Deserve Each Other (another AWESOME read) it took me a few chapters to get used to the story and writing style as this author has created a love story that feels absolutely unique. Our heroine isn’t always a reliable narrator and our hero is something of a mystery, so delving into every word and analyzing every interaction is imperative. The story begins tensely, with a sense of enemies for lovers enhanced by the forced intimacy.

These two must work together to achieve their goals, and in the process, they’re slowly opening up in a way they haven’t with anyone else. This is REAL, honest, awkward, flawed love, and yet somehow the author also feels like a warm hug. It’s downright SWOONY. And this ending? Then those tears of joy cried. I really loved that. I was lucky enough to receive an early copy (later bought it for my collection) and am happy to leave a review of this touching romance.
