Wow! First let me tell you that this love book is on the darker side and has really brought me to tears on more than one occasion. This is not Insta love, but it really is a love story. Seeing the story of Kaleb and Freya is exciting!
The twists and surprises are impressive, as is the irritability, warmth, and depth of the characters. I immediately fell in love with the dark and dangerous Kaleb, he’s an asshole but in the best way. He is not what he appears to be, and neither is his past. When the shifts are pulled, I find it even harder for him. I have read this book more than once and each time I feel like something new is being added.
Freya has a good life but she doesn’t take it for granted.
She is a good girl who gets in the way of distraction. She not only has to fight against her body and her mind, but also against the guy who is “saving” her. But unbeknownst to her, it is her Hart who saves them both. They both have strong ties to their families. I love Brett and Syrah as much as I love Kaleb and Freya.
As much as I love the other Autumn Archer books, this one really sold me. His writing since his debut novel has captivated me and continues to suck. I don’t know how he does it. Thank goodness he doesn’t keep us waiting long for his next story. Fingers crossed that book 2 is in the future, I can’t get enough of these characters.
This book is very amazing. While this is labeled a ‘dark romance,’ I didn’t feel like it was and I’m not sure what that says about my psyche. THAT was predictable and while I was right on some points, this one ground me. . He took me for a walk and I loved every second of it, even when I was crying and wanted to throw my phone across the room. Must read!!
I’m leaving this review vague on purpose because there’s a lot going on in this book and I won’t spoil the mysteries it holds. My only criticism is that I would have liked to know more about the VC and why it exists, but maybe more will be revealed in the next book. I have read this book twice and am still in shock from the events that took place. I absolutely LOVE the bond that Freya and Kaleb found in each other and look forward to reading more books by this author!
