Bow Before the Elf Queen is Book 1 in the Elf Queen series by JM Kearl. It was a great start to the series and I didn’t want to put it down.

Let’s get that out of the way because some readers absolutely hate not knowing. It ends on a cliffhanger. If you don’t like this type of book then don’t read it but you will be missing out on a great book and I can’t wait to see where it goes. If I’ve ever thought about it, most of the books I read either end on a real cliffhanger or end but are an introduction to the next in the series.

I was interested in the story, wish I didn’t work because I think I read it in one go. Things progressed and the characters are believable, a nice strong woman versus a strong man and lots of arguments between them. A page-turning, gripping story with lots of action…once you get past the beginning of the story.

Engaged as a baby to the king’s son, Layala’s parents got her out of town as soon as possible. The king wanted to take Layala away from her parents, raise her as a king, and use her powers for his own selfish greed. 25 years later, Thane is now king, restoring her to her rightful place as his queen. His back and forth banter will leave you in stitches. Thane has the patience of a saint. He is undeterred by Layala’s complaints. He has always protected her.

Thane tries to woo Layala romantically, but it irritates her more. You know they both have secrets, but they don’t say what they are. It builds the tension even more with every page you turn and you wonder who will say when, why and how. Neither Thane nor Layala trust each other. This book is like watching a movie and waiting for the secrets to come out. Can they only trust just each other and no one else? Brilliant.

It’s rare to find a book you enjoy so much that you’re willing to return to the first page to read it again, but that’s exactly what I did!
The details in this book are amazing! How people swoon over books that look like they were written by a fifth grader is beyond me, but THIS BOOK is totally worth missing! WHAT AUTHOR!! All I can hope for is someone worthy of making a movie out of! lol the story is so good!

If the details aren’t enough to immerse you in this incredible fantasy world that exudes Middle-earth vibes, wait until you meet the characters!
Layala – The female protagonist is an Elven warrior with a fierce desire to kill the king responsible for her parents’ deaths, along with her “warrior” son, believed to be one of the most hideous and ruthless creatures in all of Adamon. also the man she was tagged as her mate with when she was only 7 days old!

Thane, the king’s son, the warrior prince who is rumored to be vicious, cunning and ruthless is not what he was made out to be by rumors! Sure he steals from his partner and forces her to go with him, but behind the stories and the arrogance is a truly passionate man!

Besides the two main characters, there are other characters you will love and others you will hate!
SPOILERS: This book ends on a cliffhanger…but not something that should result in a less than 5 star rating for this book! It should definitely lead to the excitement of the next book release! (Can we say instant pre-order?!)
