Hawke (Hawken) Trent is such an old soul. It’s hard, but very deep. He’s so complicated, he takes his time with things, he’s compassionate and very smart. He got the best of his parents and I absolutely adore him. This boy has my whole heart!
They complete each other’s story. Whether they liked it at first or not, that part was very clear from the start.
I didn’t expect this book to be so emotional from the start, I don’t know why. But I know it will definitely be one of the best reads of 2022 and I’m already READY for Book 2! I’m not going to say much, just that if you loved The Fall Away series, as I know a lot of people do, this won’t disappoint. Even if you haven’t read it yet and want to start here, do so. Choose this one – it will give you a lot of feelings.
If the Devil’s Night and Fall Away team were to have a baby, this would be the perfect child they created. It’s like two worlds colliding and BAM! We have this new hybrid creation. And I’m excited about it.
There are so many great elements that are woven into this book. There’s rivalry, city legends, secret places, mysterious people, lore, conflict (lots of conflict) and cars (yes, the cars are still around). There’s everything you could want in a Penelope Douglas book (but does that really surprise us? For her ability to show us so much creativity? DUH… no).
Aro tops the list of strong female characters, determined, “I’ll kick your ass if I have to.” She doesn’t sugarcoat anything. She fights with hands and feet against everything! He does what needs to be done to survive and take care of the people he loves the most. Always make sacrifices. Though he destroys her in the process.
And then there’s Hawke. Dear sweeter harder smarter oh so hotter it melts in your mouth not your hands Hawke (well he can melt in your hands too) wiggle. Soft but strong. He struggles with himself. There is fear, confusion and uncertainty. But you’ll definitely love it for what it represents.
Those two together…well, let’s just say it’s not just cars that have someone in the driver’s seat in this book, people double brow.
I wish I could reveal more, but even if I could, I feel my weak words and descriptions don’t do it justice. Just read the book and you will get all the answers you want and need (or will you?). And maybe a new sick obsession with Penelope Douglas’ latest book series (Pfft. I’ve been there. I did that. I don’t need therapy. I like being here on the dark side. Cookies and stuff).
