This book took me on an emotional journey with characters I will never forget. Struan (Ruin) gave me goosebumps and thrills… a bad boy (who’s definitely only male), grumpy and openly angry at purely animal attraction. Thea went from being a poor, naïve innocent hopelessly attracted to the bad boy who was setting her imagination and body on fire, to a woman determined to find out what was going on behind her back to stand on his own two feet and finally claim this boy. bad. for your.
Its story is dark, delightfully twisted and gripping. The supporting characters, Struan’s companions or brothers as he calls them, are just as memorable and I look forward to their stories. I was totally hooked on this book and didn’t want to put it down until I read the last word. It ends on a precarious cliffhanger, but I refuse to divulge any details because it would ruin this beautifully written and fascinating book for you. The shock, twists and emotions make this book memorable and worth reading.
The story begins with a stormy boat ride and our two main characters are uncompromisingly themselves. However, the story follows them as they grow and come to terms with who they are. But make no mistake, it’s a journey to get there. Ruin and Thea Spice is hot! Stranger kissing to hate the pure, unfiltered need to be together jumps right off the page and into your heart.
Teadora does not know exactly what is happening on this island or with her family and finds out together with the reader. Struan, our hero, the dark-haired, brooding (my favorite!), misguided man, constantly jumps to conclusions about his own surroundings. These two discover their stories may be more intertwined than they thought.
So there I was, reading, minding my own business, on the island, in the water, and then I turned the page and it was the end. CANNOT END. I need more. Jolie Vines blew this novel away and I’m so grateful I read it. This is definitely a twist for Vines, but he delivered absolutely everything he promised.
Seeing the other McRaes touched my heart, as did the family that was building between the children. They may not always goona like their family, but they will always love them. I connected and felt like I was there on the island and experiencing those events with the characters. I read until the early hours because I couldn’t put it down.
It ends on a cliffhanger but I promise it’s 100% worth it.
