Guardian Named it one of the best books of the year “McConaughey’s book invites us to grapple with the lessons of his life as he did, and to see that the point was never to win, but to understand.” –Mark Manson, author of The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck I have been in this life for fifty years, trying to solve your puzzle for forty-two, and keeping a diary of clues to solve that puzzle for the last thirty-five. Notes on successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that surprised me and things that made me laugh out loud. how to be fair How to reduce stress how to have fun How to hurt people less. How did you get hurt? how to be a good person how to find meaning in life how else am i? Recently, I mustered up the courage to sit down with those diaries. I found stories I experienced, lessons I learned and forgot, poems, prayers, advice, beliefs about what matters, some great photos, and a ton of car decals. I found a credible theme, an approach to life that gave me the most satisfaction then and still: if you know how and when to face the challenges of life, how to find a relationship with the inevitable, you will be in a state You can enjoy what I call “catching the green light” for success. Greenlights is a remarkable debut book from an already renowned artist. Like a cross between Anthony Bourdain and Ernest Hemingway, McConaughey tells stories with the consummate storyteller. Part memoir, part life guide, and part ethical greenlight worth reading for many beyond McConaughey’s fan base; Basically anyone who likes a good guy adventure story.

Born into lower middle class East Texas, McConaughey recalls a nostalgic childhood that some would envy. His parents were twice divorced and remarried, he was subjected to corporal punishment and money was always an issue. However, he does not complain about the loss. He actually respects his parents despite his flaws. He follows the philosophy of recalibrating until he feels like a green or unavoidable light to move on in life.

After a rite of passage that involved a fight with a bar bouncer, McConaughey performed with the drive and work ethic instilled in him. Quickly finding success, he chooses to live in stark contrast to the Hollywood scene. Traveling the country with his dog, making expeditions to central Africa and South America, McConaughey sees life (lower the g to indicate it’s always a verb) as more than material success and comfort.

Finally, after years of womanizing, McConaughey established a successful monogamous relationship and fulfilled his lifelong ambition to be a father. Almost simultaneously, they decided to move away from flashy rom-coms to focus on something more artistic. Initially successful in winning an Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club, McConaughey admitted that he did not achieve the popular success he had envisioned. But all this is difficult for Mill, the experiments that are going on in life.

If you want to read about these types of people, Greenlight will be an enjoyable and inspiring text. It’s rare for a successful actor to have such a distinctive off-air personality. But if you’re far from the person who brags about physical fights, wild adventures, and showering alone, then Greenlights isn’t for you.

Personally, not finding all parts of McConaughey’s biography plausible, I found them so different that Hollywood generally maintains that the book was worth reading. Recommended for all those who feel that they are traveling through equally unexplored areas and want to gather around a campfire to listen to the stories of a fellow traveler.
