My new neighbor is a firefighter and a fiery single dad, but I swear I didn’t set off that smoke alarm on purpose.

(And I was beyond embarrassed when he walked in and saw me naked.)

Of course nothing happened because I, Winnie MacAllister, romance addict and perpetually broken hearted gave up on men for a whole year.

Even protective men with chiseled jaws, bulging biceps and deep brown eyes that make my breath catch. Even ex-SEAL with big breasts and strong hands that make my skin sizzle. Even gorgeous, grumpy guys who have their hands full raising two adorable little girls claim they don’t believe in love.

Until one night Dex kisses me and I drop all my defenses.

(Also my underwear.)

He says it’s not pretty and he’s right. He says I should get my dream job in another state, and he’s right. He says he’s too old for me and that he could never be the man I deserve.

He’s wrong.

Dex and I may be twelve years apart, but the fire between us will never die.

Book Six is a second generation spin-off of Melanie Harlow’s Cloverleigh Farms series. I loved all of the books in this series centered around a family-owned Michigan winery and looked forward to reading the author’s vision 18 years later. Winnie, our heroine, is the daughter of Mac and Frannie MacAlister from Cloverleigh Farms Book 1, “Irresistible”. She recently graduated from college and works at her grandparents’ winery as a hotel manager with hopes of becoming a full-time events planner.

Winnie is bright, lively, hardworking, friendly and so lovable. Honest to the core, she readily admits that she succumbs to the love bug too easily after being hurt in the past. I admired her self-reflection and self-improvement plan and how her best friend from high school, Ellie, embraced her and their close relationship. Ellie works at Aberlard, a neighboring boutique winery, and is a fabulous newcomer to this series.

The fun starts right from the start when Dexter Matthews, a sexy and brooding firefighter and former Navy Seal, moves in next door to Winnie with her two adorable daughters, Hallie and Luna. He shares custody with his ex-wife Naomi, and I’m glad this book is told from two points of view because he openly admits his backstory and we get a glimpse of why he’s so moody.

He regrets his time in the Navy and I admire that his children were his top priority. I have to say Hallie and Luna stole the show for me. They were very funny and just a beacon. So energetic and he made me laugh in every scene. Dex was a wonderful, caring, playful father, and that was enough for him.

When Winnie and Dex meet, their attraction is immediate, but she’s 12 years younger and he was honest that he didn’t want a serious relationship, but he couldn’t deny how good it felt just to be around her. Winnie was very upbeat and positive, and expressed genuine interest and patience with her children. Being with her was so easy that it didn’t take long for him to open up to her and they gave in to their undeniable passion.

Neighbors With Benefits until feelings got involved and then tough decisions had to be made. I really admired how honest Winnie was about almost everything. She told him how she felt about a career opportunity, she was always there for him and the girls when they needed her or wanted to be with her. She showed him her soul towards the end, holding her head up with grace and dignity when things didn’t go as planned.

Dex was a work in progress and at times a little too gruff and downcast. I enjoyed all the scenes with her sister and brother-in-law and her boyfriend Chip who happens to be Winnie’s cousin. Getting his parents’ backstory was truly heartbreaking and helped readers understand all of his pain and why he was so cautious. I felt Dex’s character grow throughout the story and loved his grand gesture of wooing Winnie at the end.

She loved them together and felt they were becoming happy, she just wished she was a little older, maybe 25 instead of 22. Her parents are ten years apart, but at 22 you’re just graduating from college and you’re a little green for the world . It’s hard for me to imagine that even with senior events planning experience, she would be hired straight out of college.

Excited for the story of Ellie and Chef Gianni Lupo who also appeared on Ignite. Enemies for lovers here we come!

This is the story of the Dex Matthews and Winnie MacAllister. He’s a retired NAVY SEAL, now a firefighter, a single father (divorced with two girls), and she’s an event planner at her family’s winery. Did I mention he’s 12 years older than her? yes yes it is

First of all this book is the second generation Cloverleigh Farm series gahhhh and it didn’t disappoint.
Dex moves in next door to Winnie, and his daughters immediately bond with Winnie. She made a bet with her best friend that she wouldn’t start dating until after Thanksgiving (she’s recovering from a bad breakup), but no one told her who would be next. The door would get so hot!

Dex is naturally attracted to her (she’s young and beautiful), but he wants to focus on being the best father he can be to his daughters. What starts off as noncommittal ends up being pretty confusing. Will they overcome their fears and get an HEA?

I loved Winnie so much, the hopeless romantic who always looks on the bright side of things, always positive and cheerful. Dex is a grumpy alpha!

In the end, the book had the perfect mix of swoons, laughs, and spice. I highly recommend it if you love small towns, big families, age gap and good vibes. If you’re a Cloverleigh Farm Series fan, you’ll love it! There are appearances by many popular characters, we even get to learn a little more about Mariah and Chip (she’s Cole’s daughter in the Bellamy Creek series).

I can’t say enough good things about this book without giving it as a gift, so I’ll just say I loved it!
