As a storm brews, an elite team of Navy SEALs arrive at a remote lodge for a wilderness training exercise that becomes chillingly real…

Xavier Rivera planned the exercise down to the last detail, but he didn’t plan the arrival of archaeologist Audrey Kendrick, a woman with whom he spent a passionate night before betraying her in the worst possible way.

As the storm rages over the historic lodge, it’s clear that training has been disrupted. Caught by the weather, cut off from the remote wilderness, and silenced by a breakdown in communications with the world, the unarmed SEALs face an unexpected and deadly enemy.

Audrey and Xavier must put their suspicions and desire aside and work together to save a team under fire and survive a battle against nature.

Xavier and Audrey had a torrid one-night stand, but Xavier’s not-so-little lie about what he does for a living had unintended consequences for both him and Audrey.

From start to finish I was hooked to see what’s in store for these two characters. Xavier had got himself in a deep ditch of trouble with Audrey and was very excited to see how it would turn out! And while I felt that Audrey and Xavier’s relationship was immediately loving, they’ve had a certain resilience through whatever they’ve been through.

The military focus of the work in the national park was also a really interesting twist. He’d never considered that as a training option, let alone the oddities that came with it. Of course I have to mention the suspense that kept me going until the end! So many details to finish…but I was happy with the end result.

Grant always provides the setting, the story, and the suspense, and this story ticks all the boxes! Add a dash of romance and voila! Here’s a happy reader 🙂

Into The Storm: Evidence Under Fire is the first in a new miniseries and another great story from Rachel Grant.

Petty Officer Xavier Rivera and his Navy superiors chose Olympic National Park, Washington, as the perfect location for a top-secret exercise for a high-risk rescue mission. The last high-risk rescue mission had been a failure, with the hostages and two SEALs dying and Xavier sustaining serious shoulder injuries that took him out of combat duty. Xavier would do anything to get permission from Olympic National Park to give his team a chance, even if it cost him a chance at true love and family.

Audrey Kendrick, a parks archaeologist with ONP, had dreamed of becoming the parks archaeologist for Olympic National Park since she was eleven, a dream that came true a year ago but at personal expense, a hiatus in their three-year love affair. Years. She will always choose the park above anything, except maybe Xavier Rivera.

A night of passion and ultimately betrayal (I recommend reading the prequel) plunges Audrey and Xavier into a mix of chaos and terror as the Navy’s training exercise turns into real business and the unarmed SEALs and civilians are killed. They bond despite mutual distrust and warm memories of their night together. You begin a journey through a storm to find the teams that are still alive and restore communications to call for help, but with mercenaries in the lead, survival was a challenge.

I would love to animate my favorite supporting character George, an amazing man. Also, it was fun to visit Luke and Undine (they also have a book).

Congratulations on a Mexican-American hero during Hispanic Heritage Month 2022. Also, congratulations on a heroine who was not afraid to cry, who possessed great strength and determination, who loves the sacred Native American sites at Olympic National Park and protects.

I highly recommend this book as well as all Rachel Grant books, her writing style, plots and adventures and suspense are engaging and fun. In addition, if you finish his books, you will gain valuable insights into culture, history, human rights, the power of the international game and much more.
