Merideth White lives in San Francisco, was once a huge movie star, but has become a recluse since her 14-year-old son was killed in a boating accident. The guy is a classic bully and he doesn’t even try to hide it. He even immediately accuses his wife of the flirting with other guys and puts her down whenever he can. I was married to a guy like him, even though my husband was a great guy among other people, so you know, if this guy doesn’t bother to hide his anger, there’s bound to be trouble with a lot of people who stay in one. place together.

Another neighbor is a famous blind pianist and his hired assistant, and a businessman who has made it big in a couple of high-tech start-ups and has an ego as big as his checkbook. His new girlfriend is there too, he treats her like a possession. Debbie and Jack aren’t too happy about the house guests, but Merideth once again enjoys her house full of talk and laughter. Debbie and Jack find themselves losing control of their menu as Merideth starts making friends and rejoins society.

I liked the premise and the story itself, but one thing bothered me and surprised me a bit, as this was a Danielle Steel novel and I know she is a well known author with tons of books under her belt. However, I felt that some things were repeated ad nauseam over and over again. For example, Merideth’s daughter, although Merideth was too hard on her ex-husband when her son died and became closer to him.

I read the same thing much more often than necessary. I’m not sure if she kept repeating herself because she really wanted to drive him home, or if it was a way of getting you on Merideth’s side. I know it was me and I was a little mad at her daughter. So if that was a device, then it must have worked!
