Writing duo Ilona Andrews have successfully and happily concluded the second story arc of their Hidden Legacy world. And while readers are pretty sure at this point that Baylor’s middle sister Catherine will end up with her prince (or at least her earl) Alessandro, there are still plenty of romantic moments, battle scenes, magical feats, and serious sarcasm.

Also, like good comedians, the writing duo have a knack for rewinding two hundred pages later to a seemingly insignificant point in a big way, allowing readers to enjoy the “aha” moments along with the characters. All of this makes his books a joy to read.
And Ruby Fever delivers on all counts, drawing readers through the prologue (the Baylors’ hilarious tour of the Baylors’ new home) and keeping them hooked until the very end, both on the important stuff (those fights, that magic) and in the little things. things (the right descriptions, the brief moments of humor).
Since many other reviews will likely include a plot synopsis, I’ll just comment on a few specific things. First, IA did a very good job of providing enough basic background information in a non-boring way that readers new to the series wouldn’t get lost. But summaries notwithstanding, I think Ruby Fever will be more fun once people have read the previous Hidden Legacy titles.
That way, newbies can have just as much fun as veterans with the occasional Easter egg scatter. (Or, if five previous books and a novel are too much to read at once, he’s at least read both of Catalina’s books, Sapphire Flames and Emerald Blaze.) And second, although the authors have commented on their blog that they will be putting the Hidden Legacy series on hiatus for the time being, one day readers will want even more from this world. And some scenes at the end of Ruby Fever, one not so obvious (in Chapter 17) and one very obvious (the epilogue), give hope that Arabella will eventually tell her story too.
I loved this book! I’m convinced that the writing duo Ilona Andrews can’t go wrong. That is the only reasonable explanation. This book was everything I expected and I enjoyed every moment I spent reading it. The story was exciting, unexpected, funny and sometimes touching. I am so glad I chose this entertaining novel.
Catalina has a lot of problems to juggle in this book. A Russian prince is causing trouble and the Texas Guardian has been attacked. She must find out who is behind all this and try to find a solution that protects everyone. There were some pretty big surprises in this story that left me speechless. I loved the magic and action of this story that made me turn the pages as fast as possible.
It was great connecting with all the key players in this series. Catalina and Alessandra are a wonderful couple and I loved how dedicated they were to each other. I love the way we see these characters grow as individuals and in their powers throughout this series. The story was very serious at times, but it also had a good dose of humor that permeated throughout the book.
I can wholeheartedly recommend this series. This is the sixth book in the Hidden Legacy series, which I would read in order if possible. I hope that at some point in the future we will see more books set in this world with this group of characters.
