Kate has been going through a rough patch lately. Her ex-husband left her with a pile of overdue bills and creditors who followed her to bankruptcy court. Her work just let her go. She has very low self-esteem, very little money, very little trust in men, and very little hope for her future.
With no prospects, Ella Kate makes one last visit to her home, and when there is a knock on her door, she waits for another creditor or a bailiff to tell her to leave. Instead, she finds Calvin, a Gentile man trying to liquidate her uncle’s estate, of which her building is a part. After the misunderstanding is resolved and they get to know each other a bit, Calvin offers Kate the job as a lawyer to file her probate papers. The rest, they say, is history!
I enjoyed this book. I almost stopped reading when the story started to involve the paranormal, but I kept going and am glad I did. The paranormal really was nothing and didn’t get much attention after that. I loved meeting the residents and staff at Rose Court, the nursing home that Calvin is now trying to run. Watching Kate and Calvin’s relationship grow despite their insecurities and lack of trust was beautiful.
