Winnifred Gobaldi and Byron Visser are really not best friends.

Yes, they’ve known each other for years, but they’re not even friends. Winnie sees them more as casual, distant acquaintances who find each other almost unbearable, especially when he’s condescending (which he is all the time).

The truth is that they have nothing in common. She’s a bright-eyed public school science teacher, and he’s an overbearing, sad double graduate student turned world-famous novelist. She loves sharing her passion for advancing women in STEM careers and building communities via social media, and he avoids all socializing, virtual or otherwise. She’s looking for a part-time job to help pay off a mountain of student debt, and her financial portfolio is the stuff of fiduciary dreams. So why are they faking a #bestfriend relationship to millions of viewers online?

When a simple case of tit-for-tat tendencies between non-friends leads to a totally unexpected kind of simulation, nothing is easy. Sometimes it takes a public hearing to reveal the truth of private feelings, and rarely, very rarely, should you believe what you see online.

Ten Trends to Seduce Your Best Friend is an independent, contemporary, full-length adult romantic comedy.

I was thrilled to read Ten Trends To Seduce Your Bestfriend new standalone book by Penny Reid. But the reason I know it was great is that I didn’t have to charge my phone during the day because I was immersed in my Kindle. Winnifred Gobaldi is a high school science teacher who records and posts STEM-related videos on social media. As much as she loves her job, she needs extra income to survive in Seattle. Her friend and roommate Ameila has a job offer that would be perfect for her, but to qualify she needs to grow her online following. Winnie and Ameila hatch a plan to increase their views and followers and enlist the help of their mutual friend Jeff.

When things don’t work out with Jeff, Byron Vissier takes his place. Byron is a reclusive, intelligent, best-selling author who has previously disappeared from social media. Its exclusivity and popularity bring in the numbers Winnie needs, but at what cost?
This is a longer book but you get so wrapped up in the story that you want more. Winnie and Byron are relatable characters, especially for people who have lived very academic lives.

Penny has her own STEM background to draw from, but like any true researcher, she also brought her evidence on women in STEM. Winnie is a smart woman who loves STEM subjects and could theoretically do anything she puts her mind to, but she has chosen to teach and inspire others. When they start filming TikToks to attract followers, Winnie feels like he’s not being honest. You don’t want to be distracted from your STEM focus, but as Amelia points out, you can do both.

It’s changing a lot, has already changed, and women’s companies, nonprofits, advertisers have to catch up.'” This is a lesson I wish I had learned much earlier. As an engineering student, I was 15:1. I I’ve often felt like I have to downplay my femininity in order to be successful or to be taken seriously, but you can be both “pretty” and “smart” and I love that Winnie is discovering this and realizing that it’s her human power None of us fits into a box.

Byron may seem a bit eccentric, but the more we get to know him, the easier it is to understand him. I’m so glad Penny shared her point of view with us, without it I think we would have been as lost as Winnie was in her thought process. Byron has harbored his attraction and affection for Winnie for many years, but she thinks he dislikes her because everything that comes out of his mouth is criticism. Ah, the silent ones. We often have a lot more on our minds than we ever let on.

To the rest of the world he might seem like an aloof guy, but to those he truly cares about he would do absolutely anything, even dye his hair.
This book doesn’t have a major conflict that needs to be resolved in order for everyone to get an HEA, it’s about how we all need to learn and grow in order to be happy. Byron and Winnie have to deal with things that not only make them uncomfortable, but others as well.

I felt that Penny did an excellent job of portraying these characters realistically. We all know or are a Byron and need to find other ways to live in the social media age. Either we all know it or we’re a Winnie who doesn’t want to be a burden to anyone. There are so many great quotes and inspirations in Ten Trends To Seduce Your Bestfriend book that I think everyone can find someone to relate to, but don’t be like Jeff.
