Like many other readers, I have always been fascinated by World War II and devour many books about that period in a year. This one revolves around Genevieve, a famous singer and darling of the Nazis.

Also known as the Black Swan, she has been secretly helping Max, a British spy, gather information to send to his superiors. She met him in Casablanca and they seemed headed towards a romance until he started manipulating her and using her for information. Since then, several years before the beginning of the book, Genevieve has upset him, and their relationship is often acrimonious.

As the story begins, Genevieve and her companion are in Paris, where she’s performing to a full audience and Max is busy doing his thing behind the scenes.
