I loved this second book in The Lost Daughters series. The Lost Daughters series is about Hope House, a home for single mothers where seven women receive a box containing clues that point to secrets from the past. This story accompanies Claudia in her search for the secrets surrounding the birth of her grandmother. Readers will travel between London and Cuba in this double timeline story set in 1951 and the present day.

Usually I’m more drawn to the historical story, but in this case I loved the contemporary plot. I didn’t expect to fall in love with the Cuban environment, but I found it charming. The author skilfully interweaves historical details of pre-Castro Cuba with those of today.

Strong family relationships are central to both stories. Not only that I fall in love with the Diaz sisters, but also I discovered that I would really love to step into Mateo’s family kitchen. This is a story of love and sacrifice and choices that can change the direction of our lives. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

The Lost Daughters is a wonderfully unique series from Soraya Lane. The Cuban daughter is an excellent addition to this. In part historical with Havana, 1950 with the Cuban revolution and the consequences that it brings with it. Then the contemporary story happens when Claudia goes to Cuba from London. An abandoned house in Cube, a family to find and possibly a new love await Claudia. However, she discovers that the past that is revealed can also be heartbreaking.

A story of searching for roots, new beginnings, family, secret loves and difficult decisions in the context of the Cuban countryside.

This is an amazing book! I was drawn in from the start and never let go. Claudia discovers information about her late grandmother that could change her knowledge of her family. She decides to do some research herself and takes an impromptu trip to Cuba. Like all of Ms. Lane’s books I’ve read, this book is very well written and makes the reader feel like a part of the story. I cannot recommend this book highly enough, especially for someone who enjoys historical fiction.
